Job Description

Experienced Bench Hand Wanted:

Gravois Planing Mill, one of the oldest architectural woodworking companies in the United States, is actively recruiting a skilled Bench Hand to join our in-house millwork production team. We specialize in high-quality millwork, casework, cabinetry, and custom woodworking for both restoration and contemporary architectural projects. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on craftsmanship with the ability to accurately interpret architectural drawings and shop plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read, interpret, and follow architectural plans, shop drawings, and specifications with precision.
  • Build and assemble millwork, casework, and cabinetry to established tolerances and quality standards.
  • Prepare components for finishing, verify dimensions, and perform quality checks on completed work.
  • Collaborate with finishers, joiners, and other production staff to maintain workflow and schedules.
  • Operate common woodworking tools and light machinery safely and efficiently.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year of direct experience constructing millwork or casework and be comfortable working from architectural plans. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, reliable attendance, and a commitment to producing consistent, high-quality woodworking.

Working Conditions & Benefits

All work is completed on-site at our mill; no travel is required. We provide a stable shop environment, potential for cross-training, and the opportunity to work with an experienced team on projects that range from historic restoration to custom commissions.

If you take pride in fine woodworking and can reliably interpret and execute shop drawings, we invite you to apply. Please include a brief summary of your experience with millwork and casework when submitting your application.
