CNC Machinist Job Description The CNC Machinist operates computer-controlled machines to fabricate precision parts from various materials in accordance with blueprints, written instructions, and standard operating procedures. This role sets up, runs, and adjusts CNC equipment, performs in-process inspections, and ensures parts meet all quality and specification requirements while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work area. Responsibilities Operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathes, mills, and related equipment, including inserting tools, changing tool tips, and setting zero positions. Set up assigned CNC machines independently, including tooling changes and necessary offsets or edits on the machine controls. Ensure established protocols, procedures, and processes are followed at all times during machine setup and operation. Perform routine visual and dimensional in-process inspections of machined parts to verify conformance to specifications and quality standards. Inspect CNC machines regularly during operation to ensure proper performance and basic maintenance, and immediately notify facility leadership of any issues or concerns identified. Address machine errors promptly and efficiently, troubleshoot basic issues, and document and report all errors to the appropriate facility leadership. Monitor production runs, track output, and maintain accurate production records as required. Complete manufacturing and production reports related to machined parts in a timely and accurate manner. Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. Use basic math and measurement tools to verify part dimensions and perform quality checks. Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition, following all prescribed safety procedures and guidelines. Collaborate with team members and assist in other work areas as needed to support production demands. Perform all other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective operation of the machining department. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of related CNC machining experience. Ability to set up CNC machines independently, including tooling changes and machine offsets. Ability to change tooling and perform edits directly on CNC machine controls. Thorough knowledge and understanding of CNC machining terms and processes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other technical drawings. Ability to perform basic math calculations sufficient to measure parts and conduct inspections. Ability to work from specific verbal or written instructions and standard operating practices. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical CNC training courses preferred. Experience with CNC lathes and mills in a production environment. Experience performing basic troubleshooting on CNC machines. Programming experience with CNC equipment preferred. Why Work Here?
