Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer is a pivotal member of a regional engineering organization, dedicated to leading and supporting capital projects across various manufacturing plant locations in North America. This role demands close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered punctually, within scope, and on budget.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support capital projects and plant upgrades involving both basic and detailed design.
- Specify machinery and utilities, estimate equipment costs, and develop capital appropriation.
- Select and manage suppliers, oversee equipment installation, and manage startup processes.
- Provide hands-on engineering support for manufacturing and maintenance operations.
- Design, fabricate, install, and optimize production machinery, utilities, and industrial pipework systems.
- Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and infrastructure.
- Drive continuous improvement across regional facilities.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing and/or maintenance.
- Experience in designing and fabricating industrial machinery or mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated expertise with plant utilities and industrial piping systems.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
- Proficient in equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel regionally up to 25%.
- Experience executing capital projects in an industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with vendors, contractors, and fabrication shops.
- Exposure to PLCs, controls, or electrical systems is preferred.
- Experience with heavy rubber processing machinery (mixing, extrusion, vulcanization, or similar) is a plus.
Work Environment
The role operates within a multi-plant manufacturing environment across North America, involving a blend of office-based engineering work and hands-on plant floor support. Frequent interaction with operations, maintenance, contractors, and suppliers is essential. Travel is required for project execution, equipment installation, and startup support. The fast-paced industrial setting emphasizes safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mebane, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.00 - $63.00/hr.
