The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving the performance, reliability, and capability of manufacturing equipment and tooling across roll forming, press operations, automation, and assembly processes. This role leads the design, improvement, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to reduce downtime, improve quality, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Through hands-on problem solving and data-driven analysis, this role identifies and resolves equipment and process issues, enhances system capability, and supports new product introduction. The position also leads capital projects, supports automation integration, and ensures equipment and tooling solutions are robust, efficient, and scalable. Working cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, this position plays a critical role in driving sustainable performance improvements and alignment on continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment & Tooling Engineering

  • Design, develop, and improve tooling and equipment across roll forming, press operations, and assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on tooling design, procurement, and implementation.
  • Optimize machine setups, changeovers, and tooling performance to reduce downtime and scrap.
  • Ensure equipment and tooling readiness for new product integration.

Equipment Performance & Reliability

  • Identify and eliminate equipment issues impacting uptime, quality, or safety.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical failures.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies through equipment analysis and design improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in OEE and equipment reliability.

Automation & Process Integration

  • Support implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated systems.
  • Collaborate with controls and automation engineers to ensure proper system integration.
  • Improve performance of conveyors, robotics, sensors, and automated handling systems.
  • Identify automation oppourtunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity.

Technical Problem Solving & Process Support

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to production to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis using data and observation.
  • Improve process capability by addressing mechanical variation and system limitations.
  • Analyze equipment and process data to identify trends and opportunities.

Facility Layout & Material Flow (Mechanical Integration)

  • Support layout improvements with focus on equipment placement, accessibility, and material handling efficiency.
  • Ensure proper integration of machinery, tooling, and automation within the production areas.
  • Assist in capacity planning based on equipment capability and constraints.

Project Engineering & Implementation

  • Lead and support capital equipment and process improvement projects from concept through execution.
  • Develop equipment specifications and evaluate technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with vendors, integrators, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
  • Evaluate cost, performance, and ROI of engineering solutions.

Documentation & Technical Standards

  • Create and maintain equipment drawings, tooling documentation, and technical standards.
  • Develop setup procedures, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance documentation.
  • Read, interpret, and update CAD models and engineering drawings as needed.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams.
  • Build strong partnerships to align equipment performance, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform all other duties & special projects assigned.

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical (preferred), Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, with significant exposure to roll forming and press processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiar with Lean tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; able to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with roll forming mills and tooling design (flower design, pass progression, cutoff tooling).
  • Familiarity with PLCs, automation, and inline quality systems.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodation, continuously and frequently overhead. Lifting of more than 45 lbs. requires team lifting of at least 2 people.
  • Continuously and/or frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects ranging from 45 lbs. to 80 lbs. Weights over 45 lbs. require teamwork of at least 2 people.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time (8-12 hours daily).
  • Must be able to move about the manufacturing floor safely and efficiently.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing stairs and/or ladders may be required for specific work tasks.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require using hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to work in loud, fast paced industrial environment with exposure to moving machinery and parts.
  • Manual dexterity and hand to eye coordination with hand/power tools.
  • Occasionally work in tight and confined spaces, use ladders, and work in high spaces.
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, tablet, and/or scanner may be required for specific work tasks.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
