Powder Coater Job Description This role prepares and applies powder coating to metal components, ensuring high-quality finishes through careful surface preparation, precise application, and thorough inspection. You will work with a variety of metals and coatings in a production environment, contributing directly to consistent, durable finishes that meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Prepare materials and parts for powder coating by performing sandblasting, rust removal, and thorough cleaning to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality. Powder coat metal surfaces, including steel, aluminum, and other shop-coated or uncoated metals, as well as finished hardware, accessories, and other designated surfaces. Hang parts and surfaces to be coated using appropriate racks and fixtures to ensure optimal coverage and finish. Inspect parts before they leave the area to verify coating quality, coverage, and finish, and accurately record documentation of all work completed. Assist with the development and documentation of optimal hanging techniques for individual parts to improve consistency and efficiency. Contribute to the evaluation and selection of proper hanging angles to support effective pretreatment chemical drainage, ergonomic application, appropriate hanging rack density, and correct conveyor line loading. Monitor and adjust powder coating equipment settings during production to maintain consistent application and finish quality. Identify and troubleshoot basic equipment and quality issues related to the powder coating process and escalate more complex issues as needed. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with powder coating processes in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Practical knowledge of industrial painting techniques and standards. Experience with sandblasting and other surface preparation methods. Understanding of the powder coating process, including electrostatics and related application equipment. Ability to set up and adjust powder coating equipment, including knowledge of proper equipment settings. Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and resolve common quality problems. Strong attention to detail when inspecting parts and documenting work. Ability to work safely and effectively in a production environment that may be loud at times. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with hanging techniques for various part geometries to optimize coverage and drainage. Experience working with conveyor line systems and understanding proper line loading practices. Comfort working with steel, aluminum, and other metal substrates. Ability to follow documented procedures and contribute to process improvement documentation. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple parts and jobs in a production setting. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time role on a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position is based in a manufacturing facility where certain areas can be loud at times, and appropriate safety precautions and protective equipment are used. You will work around powder coating equipment, sandblasting stations, and conveyor lines, handling metal components and coatings throughout the shift.
