CNC Machinist (3rd Shift) Job Description This CNC Machinist position responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting various CNC machines to produce precision components for automotive, aerospace, and medical applications. You will work with tight tolerances, perform program edits, and ensure parts meet strict quality standards in a busy machine shop environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate various CNC machines, including boring mills, standard 3-axis and 5-axis mills, and lathes, based on production needs. Configure CNC machines by installing and changing out tools as necessary, setting up workpieces, and preparing the machine for each job. Zero out X, Y, and Z axes before starting each new job to ensure accurate machining. Perform tool touch-offs to set proper tooling height from the X, Y, and Z axes. Edit CNC programs as needed using systems such as Visi, Work NC, or Mastercam to meet part specifications and production requirements. Select appropriate tooling and cutting parameters for each job to achieve required dimensions and surface finishes. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements. Machine precision parts for automotive, aerospace, and medical industries while maintaining tight tolerances. Perform in-process and final quality checks on completed parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools. Monitor machine performance during production runs and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Understand and work with Fanuc or similar CNC controls to operate and adjust machines. Maintain a clean and organized work area in a machine shop environment that includes large equipment and overhead cranes. Follow safety procedures and best practices while working around grease, dirt, and heavy machinery. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve machining issues and improve processes as needed. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up CNC machines and editing programs on boring mills or 3-axis/5-axis mills. Hands-on experience operating boring mills, horizontal boring mills, and horizontal CNC machines. Proficiency in editing CNC programs using Visi, Work NC, or Mastercam. Experience working with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Ability to perform complete CNC setups, including zeroing X, Y, and Z axes and performing tool touch-offs. Proficient in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers for quality inspection. Demonstrated experience machining parts to tight tolerances for industries such as automotive, aerospace, and medical. Solid understanding of CNC machining processes, including milling and boring. Ability to work effectively on 3rd shift (3:30 pm - 2:30 am), Monday through Friday. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with programming edits in Visi, Work NC, or Mastercam beyond basic adjustments. Familiarity with VISI software for machining applications. Experience working with large equipment, including overhead cranes and hi-lo (forklift) operations. Comfort working in a grease- and dirt-prone machine shop environment. Ability to adapt to different types of CNC machines and controls as production needs change. Willingness to train on 1st shift (approximately 6:00 am - 4:00 pm) for up to 3 months until fully comfortable with processes before transitioning to 3rd shift. Why Work Here?
