Description

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Worker 2 is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties for Tribal Government facilities, Tribal Housing, rental properties, and other tribally owned properties. This position supports the safe, efficient, and professional operation and appearance of all assigned facilities and grounds.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general maintenance and repair work involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, mechanical systems, and building upkeep.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains roofing, siding, flooring, windows, doors, shelving, cabinetry, and related hardware using hand and power tools.
  • Paints, patches, textures, plasters, and maintains interior and exterior surfaces of tribal facilities, housing units, and rental properties.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical fixtures and systems including light fixtures, switches, outlets, ballasts, fuses, lamps, and bulbs.
  • Inspects, tests, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as pumps, compressors, generators, and other maintenance-related machinery and tools.
  • Identifies maintenance concerns and communicates repair recommendations, supply needs, project priorities, and scheduling considerations to the Director of Facilities Maintenance or Lead Maintenance staff.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assists in maintaining tribal grounds and outdoor areas including mowing, trimming, brush cutting, weed control, spraying, debris removal, and seasonal maintenance activities.
  • Performs scheduled property upkeep including window cleaning, trash collection and disposal, lighting inspections, and general property appearance maintenance.
  • Assists with moving furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies as needed.
  • Assists with cutting, splitting, stacking, and distributing firewood for Tribal Elders and Tribal Members as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all work-related interactions.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS

  • This position requires working independently without overseeing others, with no authority in decision-making.
  • This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities or authority but may support training efforts and provide guidance to staff within established procedures.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Requires the ability to manage moderate levels of stress arising from schedules, workload, emergency maintenance situations, and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, kneel, climb, crouch, and reach with hands and arms frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use hands to feel, and operate tools, equipment, machinery, and controls.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions including rain, wind, heat, and cold temperatures.
  • Exposure to dust, debris, loud noise, chemicals, fumes, and maintenance related hazards.
  • Moderate to high noise levels with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Frequent use of ladders, maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, and power tools.
  • Regular exposure to unfavorable environments where person protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
  • Will require occasional nights and/or weekends for emergency maintenance or special projects.
  • Must be willing and able to travel locally within the CTCLUSI service delivery area as needed.

Requirements

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 25 years of age or older per our vehicle use policy.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to be insured to drive Tribal Government vehicles.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in general maintenance, carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing, painting, groundskeeping, or mechanical repair.
  • Must have experience operating maintenance equipment, lawn equipment, and power tools.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete tasks in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, verbally, in writing or by other acceptable means.
  • This position is considered a covered role per the CTCLUSI Background Investigations Policy. A state criminal background check and fingerprint-based background check will be required as a condition of employment.
  • This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and other authorized drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy. Please note that the use of marijuana is prohibited for employees in this position, regardless of state legalization status.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
