Buyer Jobs in District of Columbia

A Buyer in the manufacturing industry is primarily responsible for the procurement of materials, goods, and services necessary for the manufacturing process. Key duties include sourcing new suppliers, negotiating contracts, tracking orders, and ensuring timely delivery of goods. They work closely with other departments such as production and quality assurance to understand their needs and ensure the supply chain is running smoothly and cost-effectively.

Important skills for a Buyer include strong negotiation and communication abilities, analytical thinking, and a good understanding of supply chain management. They should be detail-oriented and have solid organizational skills to manage multiple orders and suppliers. A bachelor's degree in business, economics, or a relevant field is typically required. Certification such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) can be beneficial. Prior job roles before becoming a Buyer may include Procurement Assistant, Purchasing Agent, or Inventory Analyst.
