Conversion - Operator Job Description Join our team as a Conversion - Operator in a Quality role, where you will be instrumental in ensuring our products meet the highest standards. This position involves re-milling parts when defects are found, gathering and inspecting product runs, and testing and measuring manufactured parts. You will also run a 4 Axis CNC Mill, with opportunities for training if you possess strong machine operation skills. Responsibilities Re-mill parts when defects are identified. Gather, collect, and inspect product runs across the facility. Test and measure parts manufactured. Run and monitor 4 Axis CNC Mill operations, changing machine parts and codes as necessary. Conduct quality assurance functions, including testing, documenting, measuring, machining, and re-testing products. Perform heavy documentation, data entry, tracking, and reporting of quality-related information. Cross-train to run other products and participate in housekeeping and general labor duties. Prevent non-conforming products from reaching final staging. Re-set machine programs and collaborate closely with the Quality Lab team. Use hand grinders and grinding wheels for finishing and polishing. Inspect dies using manual and digital tools. Operate lab equipment for testing and visual inspections. Utilize precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions. Engage in kitting and assembly of dies and operate overhead cranes. Essential Skills Intermediate to expert level experience in CNC machine operations. Mechanical skills and precision measurement capabilities. Experience with blueprint reading and machine operations. Familiarity with milling, machining, and inspection processes. Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools. 3-5 years of experience in Quality Lab Technician and Metal Fabrication. Metal knowledge and quality assurance expertise. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CNC Mill or CNC Machines. Working towards or possessing an engineering degree or related experience. Testing experience in a laboratory setting. Work Environment This is a large union plant with ample opportunities for career advancement, although pay rates are typically dictated by the Union. This position is exempt from Union bids, offering flexibility in pay structure. The work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, heat, cold, and noise. Two shifts are available: day shift (5 or 6 am to 2 or 2 pm) and night shift (9 pm to 5 am), with potential for 10-12 hour shifts. Candidates should expect to work on Saturdays as needed to meet production demands. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of RICHMOND, Virginia.
