SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor has to ensure that within their responsibility area the preparation and execution of the tasks are complete and according to schedule. They are also to assure the check and release of the work results are carried out according to the requests and rules of the HPSI HSE and quality management system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met
  • Interviews potential candidates for positions within their team
  • Disciplines the non- or poor-work performers
  • Provides positive reinforcement to above-average performers
  • Coordinates activities of their own team with other teams’ activities and sub-contractors
  • Maintain a trouble-free production environment
  • Maintain a safe and clean working area at all times in order to perform quality work
  • Leadership, instruction and control of his/her team related to efficiency and quality goals
  • Motivation and training of employees
  • Familiar with performance standards and implementation of industry best practices to achieve optimal time/costs results
  • Responsible for taking care of quality standards, costs and performing the work according to schedule
  • Daily feedback of work progress, used production hours and quality results
  • Guarantee the readiness of all machines and equipment in the responsibility area
  • Cooperate with the preparation team related to work packages, material deliveries and improvements
  • Perform internal inspections and present the work results to the classification organization and the building management during the official inspections
  • Daily safety instructions and continuous checks related to HSE requirements and cleanliness
  • Work execution according to the valid quality standards
  • Flexible cooperation with the employees in design, planning and production
  • Continuous manning tracking, progress reporting, and budget control and updating regularly the production data in the data systems
  • Planning and organization of needed transport
  • Order of supply storage material
  • Planning and defining of needed manpower
  • Work according to building methodology
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

Supervise production workers within his/her team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Successful degree of studies as mechanical engineer or naval architect is preferable with at least 3 years’ supervisory experience
  • 5 to 15 years’ professional experience:
  • in shipyards with shipbuilding production or ship repair
  • in businesses with manufacturing of heavy steel structures
  • in the production of pressure vessels, boilers and other quality products
  • Demonstrated experience in machinery installation, including the safe use of basic and advanced hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, hand grinders, die grinders, and hand drills.
  • Skilled in operating lifting and rigging equipment, including chain falls, come-alongs, rigging gear, straps, shackles, and wire rope.
  • Proven ability to set up and operate precision tools and equipment such as:
    • Torque wrenches
    • Hydraulic jacks and high-pressure hydraulic pumps
    • Hydraulic wrenches and pneumatic pumps
    • Drill presses, angle indicators, and dial indicators
  • Experienced in reading and interpreting complex machinery installation drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficient in precision measurement using tools such as:
    • Inside and outside diameter micrometers (manual)
    • Snap gauges
    • Laser levels and magnetic base drills
  • Strong understanding of shaft and coupling alignment using a two-dial indicator system.
  • Experienced in the installation and alignment of various mechanical systems, including pumps and equipment requiring piano wire alignment techniques.
  • Hands-on experience installing and aligning major shipboard components such as:
    • Steering gear, rudders, and thrusters (bow/stern)
    • Winches, cranes, and accommodation ladders
    • Lifeboat davits, engines, and propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with the use of liquid nitrogen for metal-to-metal interference fits during machinery installation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
