SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, performs semi-skilled maintenance work in the general maintenance, repair, and construction of District facilities and equipment; to performs roofing work including, repair, alteration, and installation of various roofing surfaces; performs semi-skilled to skilled functions in one or more of the maintenance trades under the direct guidance of a journey-level trade worker; and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Examples of Duties- Independently performs semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work in the upkeep of District facilities;
- Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and responds to assigned work orders, tasks, and emergency requests relative to assigned area of responsibility; determines materials needed to accomplish work orders; meets with requesting parties to clarify work orders as needed;
- Constructs, installs, maintains and repair roofs; installs and repairs rain gutters;
- Repairs or replaces flooring materials including linoleum or floor tiles; repairs or replaces wall tiles, acoustical panel, and ceiling tiles;
- Performs a variety of gas and arc welding work; fabricates, installs and repairs playground equipment, fencing, gates, and other equipment;
- Performs a variety of glazing work; installs and repairs window glass; repairs window leaks; inspects roofs on District facilities to determine condition and necessary repairs; applies water proofing materials above and below the roof and foundation; installs compost foams and rubber materials for water proofing;
- Performs a variety of sheet metal work; fabricates, installs, and repairs galvanized gutters, down spouts, splash panels and flashing, ducts, lockers and storage cabinets; inspects gutters and drains annually and clean as needed;
- Performs a variety of masonry work involving plaster, stucco and concrete; forms, pours, shapes, and finishes concrete;
- Performs a variety of carpentry work; assembles pre-fabricated furniture and fixtures; installs, maintains, and makes general repairs to structures of wood and wooden fixtures including partitions, doors, paneling, window and door frames, bulletin boards, forms, fences, ramps, and various furniture; cuts, fits, and installs beams, boards, and shelves; sands and stains woodwork; installs insulation, drywall, celotex, and plywood;
- Under direct guidance, assists journey-level Carpenter positions with skilled carpentry work such as finish carpentry and constructing fixtures and furniture from raw materials;
- Performs a variety of plumbing work; clears drains and easily removable obstructions in water and sewer systems and related fixtures; replaces and repairs sink faucets, drinking fountain faucets, and flush valves;
- Under direct guidance, assists journey-level Plumber positions with skilled plumbing work such as the installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer mains, drains, waste and vent piping and appliances, fuel gas lateral and main lines, various other fixtures, and industrial backflow preventer devices;
- Performs a variety of electrical work; installs and repairs switches, lighting fixtures, fiber optic and other cabling; replaces fuses;
- Under direct guidance, assists journey-level Electrician positions with skilled electrical work such as the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems including conduit systems, lighting and power circuits, bell and buzzer systems, clocks, wiring for appliances and lighting, and electric equipment and machines such as vacuums and heaters;
- Performs a variety of painting work; prepares a variety of interior and exterior surfaces for painting including wood, metal, glass, plaster, stucco, wall board, brick, asphalt, and concrete; paints small areas and does touchup work;
- Under direct guidance, assists journey-level Painter positions with skilled painting work and large paint jobs;
- Under direct guidance, assists journey-level HVAC Technician positions with skilled work such as installing, servicing, regulating, and repairing mechanical equipment including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment;
- Demolishes a variety of structures and materials including walls, floors, cabinets, concrete, and asphalt;
- Installs and repairs flag poles;
- Operates and performs operator's maintenance on a district vehicle;
- Operates a variety of power and hand tools and equipment related to assigned maintenance function;
- Performs clean-up at job site; observes and implements proper safety practices;
- Maintains records including labor, materials, and work orders completed; prepares reports as required.
Other Related Duties
- May install, repair, and maintain locks, closures, and other door hardware;
- May provide work direction and guidance to maintenance personnel assigned to assist on larger projects;
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and facilities repair work.
Special: Possession of an appropriate, valid California Drivers License.
Ability to be insured, and continue to be insurable, by the Districts liability insurance carrier.
All licenses, certificates, and other requirements listed above are required at the time of employment and must be maintained during the course of employment unless otherwise noted.
Supplemental Information This is a Dual Certification recruitment: Candidates who attain a passing score on each examination part will be placed in rank order on an eligibility list after promotional credits are added to the composite test scores of promotional candidates. These examinations are open to permanent employees and the public.
