Position Title: Returnable Container Program Engineer / Specialist

Position Summary

The Returnable Container Program Engineer/Specialist serves as the primary resource for managing the returnable container program, which involves inbound parts from KMA suppliers. This program encompasses over 300,000 returnable containers with more than 230 unique designs in circulation among over 100 domestic parts suppliers. The role is responsible for overseeing the program's operations, ensuring optimal performance, and collaborating closely with the returnable container management vendor, KMA departments, and parts suppliers to resolve any issues impacting the program.

Job Duties

Primary Resource: Act as the main KMA contact for the returnable container program. Facilitate meetings with the returnable container management vendor and investigate and resolve related issues. Collaborate with the Purchasing and Planning departments to address supplier-related concerns.

Packaging Projects: Lead new packaging projects, ensuring timely implementation. Work with packaging vendors to develop designs for returnable containers that maximize ROI and enhance part quality during shipment. Create and present investment proposals for new packaging designs to upper management.

Inventory Analysis: Conduct analyses to determine future inventory needs for returnable containers. Perform ROI assessments to evaluate the addition or removal of suppliers from the program.

Physical Inventory: Facilitate a comprehensive physical inventory of returnable containers throughout the system every six months.

Continuous Improvement: Drive kaizen initiatives to enhance the returnable container program by improving safety and quality while reducing costs associated with packaging and repacking operations.

Budget Development: Develop the annual fixed asset budget for the returnable container program.

Decision-Making Authority

Daily Decisions: Make daily decisions regarding the resolution of returnable container issues, such as managing extra shipments to suppliers, adding or removing suppliers from the program, and finalizing designs for new containers.

Approval Requirements: Seek approval from higher authority for funding related to returnable container projects and associated expenses.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Engineering, or Project Management.

Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years of project management experience preferred.

Special Skills, Knowledge, or Abilities: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, project management experience, proficiency in data analysis using MS Excel or MS Access, and familiarity with returnable container programs preferred.

Competencies: Excellent time management, problem-solving, project management, attention to detail, and interpersonal communication skills.

Professional Certifications: Project management certification preferred.

Travel Requirements: 15% (typically a couple of days at a time).

Physical Demands: Intermittent lifting required.

Work Environment: Combination of office, manufacturing, and warehousing settings.
