Role Objective
Process Technicians are responsible for attaining and the addition of raw materials into the mixing equipment to manufacture GOJO products. In this role, you must follow the formula within specifications and schedule and operate the mixing equipment until batches are completed and transferred.
The purpose of a Process Technician is to perform all process operations related to the addition and mixing of ingredients to make finished GOJO products. These actions are performed using approved methods and chemicals in a manner consistent with GOJO safety goals and/or policies and complies fully with all applicable cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements.
This position fulfills a pivotal role; ensuring GOJO maintains the highest standards in the production of our products.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Manufacture specified products within the required timeframe in accordance with the production schedule and batch cycle time requirements according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), batch sheet instructions, and cGMP.
- Obtain/stage, weigh, and verify all raw materials and supplies for product construction in accordance with SOPs.
- Maintain and monitor necessary documentation for accuracy and completeness in accordance with cGMP.
- Operate the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) terminals.
- Obtain and submit in-process samples as required per SOPs.
- Perform visual quality checks, identify and report discrepancies to supervision.
- Clean and sanitize assigned tanks, associated piping, fittings, pumps and other related equipment as necessary per established procedures.
- Return unused chemicals and empty containers to appropriate areas.
- Ensure that hazardous wastes and recycle materials are transferred into designated containers located near the point of generation and the containers are properly labeled.
- Perform all unit operations (i.e. batch construction, continuous system).
- Transfer of finished product to hold vessel as needed.
- Assist in spill control and cleanup as required (hazardous spills included).
- Monitor all process activities including transfers for leaks and take necessary actions to avoid/correct any spill.
- Secure, maintain, and use all necessary safety equipment.
- Use proper PPE (personal protective equipment) as required by chemical hazards and/or tasks.
- Follow all established safety procedures.
- Identify and perform basic troubleshooting of equipment and process related issues.
- Perform daily checks of equipment and communicate status to appropriate person in accordance with SOPs, utilizing checklists, where applicable.
- Operate PIT (powered industrial transportation/equipment) in accordance with SOPs and training.
- Serve as back up to other process employees.
- Set up and operate process equipment (transitory equipment).
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, piping, and processes.
- Perform general and controlled environment housekeeping duties on a continuous basis.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Assist with department project work as needed.
- Knowledge of finished product analytical requirements following QC (Quality Control) SOPs.
- Familiar with emergency procedures and equipment necessary to safely and effectively respond to an emergency involving hazardous waste.
- Assures hazardous wastes are placed in the appropriate container that is properly labeled, is in good condition and is closed.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Two year's work experience in a chemical warehouse environment.
Experience driving PIT
Some college and post-secondary technical education, with coursework in chemistry preferred.
Chemical handling experience preferred.
