Powder Coating Operator Job Description This role focuses on supporting a powder coating production line by following standard operating procedures, preparing and handling materials, and operating industrial equipment to ensure consistent, safe, and high-quality output. The position requires working in a manufacturing environment, handling large structural components, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. Responsibilities Follow standard operating procedures to ensure products are produced consistently, safely, and within established quality standards. Gather materials and hang parts on the production line in the correct sequence and orientation. Operate a spray wand in the wash bay to clean and prepare parts for powder coating. Operate a combi forklift to move materials ranging in length from approximately 2 feet to 40 feet, ensuring safe handling and transport. Operate a scissor lift to access and handle materials at various heights as required by the production process. Remove finished product from the line and stage it properly in designated areas for the next step in the process or shipment. Perform 6S duties in the assigned area, including sorting, setting in order, shining, standardizing, sustaining, and ensuring overall workplace safety and cleanliness. Plan and organize the work center to maintain efficient workflow and minimize downtime. Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues as they arise. Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of machinery. Essential Skills Up to 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Strong mechanical aptitude, preferably with exposure to structural or large equipment. Experience or comfort working in general labor roles within manufacturing. Ability to follow standard operating procedures accurately and consistently. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and prevent quality issues. Ability to plan and organize a work center to support efficient production. Effective written and oral communication skills for working in a team environment. Ability to safely operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and related material handling equipment, or willingness to learn. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, and staging large components. Positive, professional attitude and willingness to follow safety and quality standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous powder coating experience is a plus. Experience working with structural equipment or large equipment is preferred. Background in assembly or similar production processes is beneficial. Familiarity with 6S or similar workplace organization and continuous improvement practices. The setting involves working around machinery, large structural components, and material handling equipment such as combi forklifts and scissor lifts. Personal protective equipment is required and includes hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs, welding helmets, and welding gloves, reflecting a strong emphasis on safety. The environment supports structured production processes while encouraging teamwork and clear communication on the shop floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sheffield, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.30 - $20.30/hr.
