Job Description

The Manufacturing Process Engineer ensures that manufacturing processes and equipment are robust, reliable, and capable of supporting high-volume production with tight product tolerances. This role focuses on maximizing equipment uptime, driving process efficiency, and maintaining exceptional product quality through data-driven manufacturing metrics. The engineer collaborates closely with production teams and cross-functional partners to implement process improvements, support the full product lifecycle, and continuously enhance manufacturing performance. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Rensselaer, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain automated equipment and manual fixtures through structured preventive maintenance programs to maximize uptime, ensure consistent product quality, and protect operator safety.
  • Partner closely with production operators and technicians on the shop floor to identify, prioritize, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and reduce variation.
  • Use manufacturing metrics and data analysis to drive quality improvements into future product designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Represent manufacturing on cross-functional teams throughout product lifecycle activities, ensuring that manufacturing deliverables are clearly defined, documented, and properly approved.
  • Support process development and optimization for new and existing products, including tooling, equipment design, and automation solutions.
  • Create, update, and maintain clear work instructions and production documentation to support standardized, repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Apply root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies to resolve production issues, reduce defects, and improve process capability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other improvement tools to streamline workflows and eliminate waste.
  • Provide production support for automated systems, robotics, and other manufacturing equipment to ensure stable and efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams on mechanical and mold design considerations, particularly for plastics injection molding applications.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree, with Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • At least 1+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with automation systems or similar technologies in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and practical application of continuous improvement tools and mindset.
  • Experience with process improvement and manufacturing process optimization.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Background in manufacturing engineering or process engineering in a production setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with SolidWorks for 3D modeling, mechanical design, and drafting.
  • Exposure to tooling and equipment design, particularly for automated or semi-automated systems.
  • Experience with mold design and plastics injection molding processes.
  • Hands-on experience with automation, robotics, and production support for automated lines.
  • Ability to develop and refine work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong skills in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and Lean Six Sigma projects.
  • Comfort working with cross-functional teams across engineering, production, and quality.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a team player in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role based in Rensselaer, NY, within a growing manufacturing facility that supports the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. The site operates with fully automated production lines and recently expanded with an additional 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space in 2025. The operation runs on two shifts, with engineering working primarily on first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The facility houses 42 automated machines and a collaborative team of approximately 130 employees, including engineers and consultants. The work environment is professional and team-oriented, with a business casual dress code and a strong focus on automation, advanced manufacturing technologies, and continuous improvement.

This is a Permanent position based out of Rensselaer, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.

2 weeks vacation time (80 hours); health, dental & vision benefits partially paid by the employer; 401k match up to 4%. Full-time, permanent position.
