Job Description

This role focuses on converting standard trucks and vans into fully equipped work vehicles tailored to the needs of a wide range of customers. You will use mechanical, electrical, and basic construction skills to install and assemble equipment, ensuring each vehicle meets quality, safety, and functional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Convert standard trucks and vans into fully outfitted work vehicles according to customer specifications and technical drawings.

• Perform mechanical assembly of components, fixtures, and equipment using a variety of hand tools and power tools.

• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and layout drawings to guide installation and assembly work.

• Measure, mark, and cut materials accurately using a tape measure and other measuring tools to ensure precise fit and alignment.

• Install mechanical and basic electrical components as part of vehicle upfitting, following schematics and safety guidelines.

• Apply basic construction techniques to build, mount, and secure shelving, racks, partitions, and other interior or exterior structures.

• Inspect completed assemblies and installations to verify proper operation, alignment, and adherence to quality standards.

• Troubleshoot and adjust assemblies or installations when issues arise, making corrections to meet specifications.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and care of tools and equipment.

• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks, meet project deadlines, and support continuous improvement of processes.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2+ years of recent mechanical building experience in areas such as construction, mechanical assembly, or similar hands-on roles.

• Proficiency in using a tape measure and accurately interpreting measurements.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for mechanical and basic electrical assemblies.

• Hands-on experience using hand tools and basic power tools for mechanical assembly.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with vehicle components and upfitting tasks.

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work from technical documentation.

• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in construction, fabrication, or vehicle upfitting environments.

• Familiarity with basic electrical work related to vehicle or equipment installations.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.

• Good communication skills to coordinate tasks and clarify specifications when needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a light-duty commercial vehicle upfitting facility that has grown from a small family-owned operation into a premier provider with multiple locations. The environment emphasizes professionalism, integrity, and high-quality service for a diverse customer base, including fleet managers, dealerships, utilities, government agencies, and contractors. You will work in a shop setting using hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other standard equipment to assemble and install components on trucks and vans. The facility offers an easy-going atmosphere with flexibility around working hours and day-to-day needs, reflecting a culture that values both productivity and work-life balance.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookfield, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
