CNC Machinist and Programmer Job Description This full-time CNC Machinist and Programmer role focuses on manufacturing precision machined components for UAV applications, with an emphasis on close-tolerance parts, assemblies, prototypes, and production runs. You will plan and lay out work, set up and operate various CNC mills and lathes, program and optimize machining processes, and ensure all parts meet strict tolerance and quality requirements using precision measuring tools. Responsibilities Plan and lay out machining work based on detailed drawings and specifications. Develop a clear plan of action to manufacture parts according to drawing and process requirements. Read and interpret production process work instructions, blueprints, and drawings, including GD&T, to fully understand part and assembly requirements. Set up and operate various CNC mills and lathes, including selecting appropriate tools, fixtures, and workholding methods. Configure and adjust CNC machine tools, including entering or modifying programs using G and M codes as needed. Set up tools and fixtures to support each step of the manufacturing process and ensure repeatable, accurate setups. Monitor the production process and think critically to identify issues, make adjustments, and optimize machining operations when problems arise. Measure parts throughout the manufacturing process using precision measuring tools, and adjust offsets or processes to maintain compliance with drawings and process documentation. Inspect finished parts against drawings and GD&T requirements to confirm they meet specified tolerances, including holding tolerances of 0.001. Apply close-tolerance machining practices to produce high-precision components consistently. Mitigate risk and solve problems by thinking creatively and proposing practical, effective solutions. Work on large, complex fabrication projects, ensuring all components are machined accurately and fit within overall assemblies. Perform job requirements with limited supervision, managing priorities and workflow independently. Maintain accurate and organized documentation related to setups, inspections, and process adjustments as required. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in the machine shop. Communicate effectively with team members regarding issues, improvements, and status of work in progress. Continuously build knowledge and skills in CNC machining, programming, and related technologies, and share expertise with others. Essential Skills Advanced experience with CNC machining, including setup and operation of CNC mills and lathes. Extensive knowledge of CNC machine tools and their capabilities. Extensive knowledge of machining and machining processes, including close-tolerance machining. Extensive knowledge of machine shop tooling, speeds, and feeds, with the ability to calculate proper feeds and speeds. Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T on drawings. Familiarity with G and M codes for CNC programming and adjustments. Strong machine shop math skills to support accurate calculations and problem solving. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and outside the box. Ability to perform job requirements with limited supervision.
