Inventory Manager - Shipping and Receiving (Manufacturing) Job Description This role oversees all aspects of inventory management and control in a fast-paced manufacturing environment producing custom-engineered electrical gear for the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors. You will take full ownership of inventory accuracy, stock optimization, and record integrity while working closely with Shipping/Receiving, Purchasing, Production, and other departments. Using an ERP system, you will ensure that inventory levels support production schedules and that all movements of materials are tracked, documented, and communicated clearly across the organization. Responsibilities Take full ownership of inventory management and control within a manufacturing shop environment. Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure optimal stock levels to meet production schedule demands. Use ERP systems, including Microsoft Dynamics, to track, manage, and reconcile inventory transactions. Coordinate closely with Shipping/Receiving and Purchasing teams to align inventory levels with incoming and outgoing materials, without directly managing those functions. Collaborate with Production and other internal departments to ensure timely availability of materials and components. Oversee the movement, storage, and organization of pallets, crates, and top-heavy items in the warehouse and shop areas. Perform or oversee cycle counting activities to verify inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies. Support inventory optimization efforts by monitoring usage, lead times, and stock levels, and recommending adjustments as needed. Ensure proper documentation of all inventory movements, including shipping, receiving, and internal transfers. Assist with logistics coordination to support on-time delivery and shipment of materials and finished goods. Promote and enforce safe material handling practices, especially when operating or directing the use of sit-down forklifts. Use computer systems and Microsoft Office tools to generate reports, track metrics, and communicate inventory status. Work closely with external departments and partners as needed to resolve inventory-related issues and support customer and production requirements. Support warehouse management practices that keep the shop clean, organized, and efficient. Manage inventory valued at more than $10 million, ensuring strong control, accountability, and visibility. Adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume production environment and support extended hours as needed to manage inventory demands. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in shipping and receiving in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. At least 1 year of experience operating a forklift, including sit-down forklifts. Hands-on experience moving pallets, crates, and top-heavy items safely and efficiently. Basic inventory experience, including familiarity with inventory control processes. Ability to work closely with multiple departments beyond Purchasing and Shipping/Receiving. Experience with inventory control and warehouse shipping processes. Experience with warehouse inventory and warehouse management practices. Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics, for inventory tracking and management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills for data entry, reporting, and communication. Experience with logistics and inventory management in a production or manufacturing setting. Experience with cycle counting and inventory optimization activities. Ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced production shop environment. Willingness and ability to work 50+ hours per week when required to manage inventory demands. Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment with open bay doors. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and appropriate work attire. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment handling high-value inventory. Experience managing or supporting inventory valued at $10 million or more. Exposure to production environments supporting energy, industrial, or critical infrastructure sectors. Strong communication skills for working with internal and external departments. Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining inventory records and documentation. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and high production volumes. Comfort working in a family-oriented, community-focused organization. Openness to learning new inventory systems and processes, with training provided on internal systems. Interest in long-term growth within a rapidly expanding organization. Why Work Here? You will join a rapidly growing organization that places a strong emphasis on taking care of its employees and fostering a supportive, family-oriented culture. The company regularly provides catered food, hosts community events on weekends, and engages in ongoing community outreach, creating a sense of connection and purpose beyond day-to-day work. As a second chance employer, it offers opportunities to individuals who are looking to rebuild and grow their careers. Work Environment The role is based in a medium-sized shop that is one of several facilities within a larger operation. The environment is very clean, organized, and highly active, with a busy production floor and fast-paced workflow. The shop is non-climate-controlled, with open bay doors and numerous fans to support airflow. You will work around 200+ employees overall and manage inventory valued at over $10 million. Standard work hours are on the day shift, Monday through Friday, from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a strong likelihood of staying later and frequently working 50+ hours per week, depending on inventory demands. A 40-hour workweek is uncommon due to the volume of inventory to manage. The environment involves regular forklift use, movement of pallets and crates, and coordination with production and warehouse operations. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a safety-conscious, hands-on manufacturing setting.
