Press Brake Operator Job Description This role involves setting up, programming, and operating an Amada press brake to perform complex sheet metal forming operations. You will interpret detailed blueprints and geometric tolerances, create and modify tooling setups, and ensure that all parts meet precise specifications. The position also includes mentoring junior operators, coordinating workflow and materials, and maintaining a clean, efficient work area in a machine shop environment. Responsibilities Set up, run, and operate an Amada press brake for a variety of sheet metal forming jobs. Prepare and execute complex bend setups and forming operations using custom punch and die modifications in combination with other tooling. Perform complex programming on the press brake, including bending at various angles, step bends, proper back gauge transfer between steps, delays, and other advanced features. Carry out sheet metal forming using press brakes and rolls to produce parts that meet exact specifications. Read and interpret complex blueprints and geometric tolerances, and relate these requirements to the finished product. Apply a solid understanding of flat pattern layout to ensure accurate forming and bending operations. Train and mentor junior operators, sharing best practices and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. Work efficiently and in a timely manner to meet production schedules and quality expectations. Determine division of workflow based on levels of expertise within the team to optimize productivity. Collaborate with the material handler to ensure required materials are available according to the production schedule. Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership to support production and operational goals. Maintain housekeeping within the area of responsibility, keeping equipment and workspaces clean, organized, and safe. Essential Skills Minimum of five (5) years of experience in press brake operations, including setup and programming. Hands-on experience operating an Amada press brake for complex forming operations. Proficient blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret complex drawings and geometric tolerances. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and how it relates to finished parts. Ability to perform flat pattern layout for sheet metal forming. Skilled use of measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers to verify part dimensions. Ability to work effectively in a leadership environment and collaborate well with others. Capability to determine and allocate workflow based on team members' skill levels. Strong organizational skills to manage tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. Proficiency in using hand tools and machine operation in a sheet metal or machine shop setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using custom punch and die modifications in combination with other tooling for specialized forming operations. Background in machine shop operations and sheet metal fabrication. Ability to train and coach junior operators to improve their technical skills and performance. Comfort with complex press brake programming, including advanced features such as step bends and back gauge transfers. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts. Work Environment This position operates in a machine shop environment on a day shift schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work around industrial machinery and sheet metal fabrication equipment, including press brakes and rolls. The role involves standing for extended periods, handling materials, and working closely with other team members in a production-focused shop.
