Manual Machinist Job Description The Manual Machinist sets up and operates manual mills and lathes to machine parts to precise specifications in a clean, indoor fabrication environment. This role uses a variety of fabrication and cutting equipment, including jig borers, grinders, saws, and handheld plasma tools, and may also operate CNC machines as needed. The position involves working with welding and fabricating equipment to cut or weld parts while maintaining a high standard of safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual mills and manual lathes to machine parts to required dimensions and tolerances. Use fabrication equipment such as jig borers and grinders to perform precision machining and finishing operations. Operate saws, undercutting saws, and handheld plasma equipment to cut materials according to specifications. Operate welding and fabricating equipment to cut, weld, and assemble metal parts as required. Use forklifts, cranes, and hand tools to safely move, position, and handle materials and components in the shop. May operate CNC machines in the shop to support production needs and meet customer requirements. Inspect parts during and after machining to ensure they meet quality and dimensional standards. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the fabrication shop. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, resolve issues, and meet production schedules. Essential Skills Proven experience operating manual mills and manual lathes in a fabrication or machining environment. Proficiency with manual machining processes, including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting. Ability to use fabrication equipment such as jig borers and grinders safely and effectively. Experience operating saws, undercutting saws, and handheld plasma cutting tools. Ability to operate welding and fabricating equipment to cut or weld parts to specification. Capability to use forklifts, cranes, and hand tools to handle materials and components safely. Basic understanding of machining safety practices and shop procedures. Ability to read and follow instructions and work accurately with measurements and tolerances. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating CNC machines in a shop environment is a plus. Comfort working in a fabrication setting and around welding and cutting equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a production environment. Willingness to follow established processes and continuously improve work practices. Why Work Here?
