We are seeking a dependable and motivated 1st Shift Supervisor to lead daily operations in our wood processing facility. This role is responsible for driving production, maintaining safety and quality standards, and supporting a high-performing team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong manufacturing experience who can keep operations running efficiently while promoting teamwork, accountability, and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities Production & Operations- Lead and coordinate all 1st shift production activities to meet daily output goals and minimize downtime
- Monitor processing operations including sawing, drying, planing, and treatment processes
- Ensure equipment is operating efficiently and communicate maintenance needs promptly
- Troubleshoot production issues and work closely with maintenance and management teams to resolve operational challenges
- Track productivity, efficiency, and shift performance metrics
- Promote and enforce OSHA regulations and company safety procedures, including PPE and Lockout/Tagout compliance
- Conduct shift safety meetings and support incident investigations when needed
- Maintain compliance with environmental and housekeeping standards, including dust control and waste management
- Foster a culture focused on safe work practices and continuous improvement
- Supervise, coach, and support a team of 1530 employees
- Manage employee scheduling, attendance, and daily staffing needs
- Train and onboard new team members on equipment, procedures, and safety expectations
- Conduct performance coaching and help maintain a positive, productive work environment
- Encourage teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence
- Inspect finished wood products to ensure quality and grading standards are met
- Monitor moisture content, recovery rates, and production consistency
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve material yield
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, industrial production, or wood processing environments
- Experience in sawmill, lumber, timber, pulp, or wood manufacturing operations preferred
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast-paced industrial setting
- Working knowledge of industrial safety practices and production equipment
- Basic computer and reporting skills preferred
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Comfortable working in indoor/outdoor industrial conditions and varying temperatures
- Ability to work around heavy equipment, machinery, dust, and high noise levels
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on production needs
