Distribution Center Supervisor

Overview

The position is responsible for scheduling transportation for outbound shipments, managing and maintaining the distribution center’s inventory. Supervise direct and indirect employees to meet established distribution schedules. Maintain safety, quality, productivity, and communication standards, along with controlling costs. Enforce compliance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure shipments are properly loaded and meet all customer, DOT and EPA requirements; to include handling of hazardous waste.
  • Communicate with plant management and corporate transportation agents to maintain OTD and complete customer satisfaction.
  • Contact all customers, carrier, or other outside businesses as needed.
  • Recognize, recommend compliance procedures, and enforce safety and EPA issues.
  • Ensure that all paperwork and reports are completed in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities, model Lean Manufacturing principles and attend meeting as needed.
  • Audit all areas of responsibility to ensure that procedures and processes are being followed.
  • Able to understand and nurture a strong safety minded culture.
  • Communicate expectations clearly and hold accountable to those expectations.
  • Implement plant policies and procedures regarding safety and health.
  • Assign and monitor work to achieve production efficiently.
  • Direct, train, review, and discipline hourly employees as required,
  • Give recognition to employees that exceed expectations.
  • Assure production meets quality standards.
  • Additional responsibilities as neededto support the team and company goals.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one to three years of shipping/receiving or related experience.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Must have prior supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical manuals.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers, customer and management.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and purchase orders.
  • Must communicate verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate percentages and ratios; solve simple algebraic formulas. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions on the work that needs to be performed. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess good organizational skills. PHYSICIAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, craw, squat, kneel and climb. Able to use both arms and hands to use computer, peripherals, and lift 40 pounds from floor level to overhead. Able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms. Able to wear respirator and other PPE as required. Able to work extended shifts and weekends as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Able to work inside or outside the plant environment and in all climate conditions. Exposed to lead, fumes, chemicals, operating equipment, and vehicles. EEO
