Machinist - Manual Milling (Bridgeport) Location: Rochester, NY Pay: $24-$26/hour Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Machinist with hands-on experience operating manual Bridgeport milling machines. In this role, you will set up and machine precision components from engineering prints, ensuring tight tolerances and high-quality standards are consistently met. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate manual Bridgeport milling machines to produce precision components Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining methods and sequence Perform machining operations including milling, drilling, tapping, and boring Select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds to achieve accuracy and optimal surface finish Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure tolerance compliance Complete machine setups, adjustments, and basic preventative maintenance Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and efficiency Support both mill and lathe operations as needed Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Preferred Skills & Experience Experience operating and setting up manual Bridgeport mills Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills Proficiency in manual machining operations (milling, drilling, tapping, boring) Ability to perform full machine setups, including tooling alignment Skilled in using precision measuring instruments Experience with manual lathes is a plus Strong troubleshooting ability and mechanical aptitude High attention to detail and commitment to quality Preferred Qualifications Experience working with both mills and lathes in a production setting Exposure to basic machining programming or parameter adjustments Experience in conventional machine shop environments Interest in advancing skills through certifications or additional training Why Join Us? You'll spend your day on the shop floor performing setups, machining parts, and conducting inspections. Safety is a top priority, and proper PPE and shop attire are required.
