Industrial Project Engineer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading technical discussions in office & field settings to successfully achieve project milestones and ensure ultimate customer satisfaction. Position works with general and electrical contractors, engineering firms, vendors, end users and internal Nixon groups. Project Engineer is responsible for site inspection, coordinating on-site delivery and collaborating with service team for generator startup.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Be the technical liaison to ensure project integrity from a scope, installation, and commissioning standpoint.
  • Ensure accurate and timely communication between sales team, aftermarket team, contractor(s) and end user.
  • Answer, assess, and resolve submittal comments and issues regarding technical design.
  • Track and manage milestone achievement within a project schedule.
  • Update Nixon management on project status and issues as required.
  • Meet with sales representative, sales management, contractor, and applications engineer to establish final BOM and customer delivery requirements.
  • Attend Submittal review meetings and make document and drawing updates as needed.
  • Collaborate with submittal coordinator to compile submittal documents as requested by the customer. Generate and compile submittal documents for completion by the submittal coordinator.
  • Coordinate communications between all entities associated with milestone achievement to ensure completion.
  • Attend site meetings including project kickoff, submittal review, site commissioning, etc.
  • Lead site meetings ensuring timely completion along with accurate installations and startup.
  • Ensure Nixon field service is involved prior to shipment of equipment to customer.
  • Schedule site services kickoff meeting with field service prior to startup date.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite of programs.
  • Ability to prioritize projects based on solution impact, including time to implement and/or direction from leadership.
  • Possess the ability to understand the complexities of situations, projects, and positions as well as a 360° balance of all processes and procedures.

Education & Experience Preferences/Requirements

Degree Required: Technical School Certificate

Years of Experience: 2-3

  • 2 or more years of technical experience with large power distribution systems, three phase UPS systems, switchgear, generators, or batteries.
  • Experience in the on-site power generation industry is preferred.

Working Environment / Conditions

  • Ability to travel 40-60% scheduled trips as well as unplanned travel, as needed.
  • Normal office environment.
  • Use hands/fingers to handle or feel.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
