RESIDENCY- Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application: Livingston County These duties involve responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and various types of road maintenance and construction equipment. Employees are also required to closely monitor the operation of equipment, report necessary repairs to the Shop Manager and perform routine maintenance involving lubrication and maintaining liquid levels. Work is performed in the office and in the field. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. General instructions are received regarding routine work and detailed or specific instructions are received regarding new or unusual assignments. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees. Employees may be required to perform manual road and bridge work as needed. A Motor Equipment Operator I does related work as assigned. Performs year round traffic control (flagging); Operates a truck in connection with the hauling and placing of material for road and bridge construction and repair; Operates a truck to transport workers, tools and other equipment; Operates a tractor mower for cutting grass or brush from roadsides and public places; May operate ten wheel dump trucks and trucks with snow plows on a substitute basis; Services assigned vehicle and maintains it in clean condition; Loads and unloads trucks; Performs a variety of manual tasks such as cutting trees, road patching, bridge scraping, painting and snow shoveling; Operates commercial motor vehicles as directed; and Performs other related duties as assigned. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of the operation of bucket loaders, snow plow trucks, four-wheel drive snow blowers, rollers, tractors, ten-wheel dump trucks and street cleaning equipment; good knowledge of County geography; good manual dexterity; ability to service and make simple repairs to small tractors and dump trucks; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds; ability to stand and walk for extended periods; ability to frequently stoop, bend, and kneel; ability to perform sustained and vigorous activities in a variety of environments, temperatures, and weather conditions and exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and construction materials; mechanical aptitude; willingness to respond to emergencies and work under adverse weather conditions; diligence and dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # 1 2 Training/Education None required. General experience Six months of full-time paid experience in the operation of light automotive equipment [1] ,[2]. Supervisory experience None required. License/ Certification Possession of a valid New York State Class B [3] commercial driver's license. Possession of a valid New York State Class B commercial permit. Other requirements See Special Qualifications below. Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements. [1] Light automotive equipment, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications includes, pickup truck, pickup truck snowplows, small rollers, small wheel loaders, 1-ton utility trucks, small flatbed or dump trucks, 40-HP or larger tractor mowers, or forklift. [2] Medium and specialized/heavy automotive equipment is also acceptable. For the purposes of these minimum qualifications this includes: single-axle dump trucks, flatbed trucks, snowplows and water tank trucks, tandem-axle dump trucks, larger asphalt rollers, hydroseeding equipment, loaders, backhoes, small to medium bulldozers, motor grader, wheeled or track excavator, large loaders, semi tractor-trailer, live-bottom material tractor-trailer, road widener machine, large bulldozers, Athey force-feed loader, backhoe/loader, aerial hydraulic bucket truck, tractor-trailer lowboy equipment transport unit, or bus. [3] A Class A commercial motor vehicle driver's license may be substituted for a Class B commercial motor vehicle driver's license. Applicants appointed under Option 1 must possess or obtain within 60 calendar days of appointment a commercial motor vehicle driver's license endorsement for tank. Applicants appointed under Option 2 will be required to obtain their commercial motor vehicle driver's license with an endorsement for tank within 12 months of appointment. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Appropriate licensure, with necessary endorsements, must be maintained throughout employment (NYS Transportation Law 140 (2)(c)). A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required. Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.
