Maintenance Mechanic Job Description This role performs preventive and reactive maintenance on furnaces, water towers, and related equipment in a heat treat shop. You will troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, and basic HVAC systems while working in a hot, hands-on industrial environment. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and reliability in both weekday and rotating weekend schedules. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and reactive maintenance (RMs) on furnaces, water towers, and other production equipment in a heat treat shop. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including motors, wiring, and switches. Disassemble, repair, and rebuild mechanical components such as pumps and related equipment. Complete basic hydraulic and plumbing maintenance, including valve replacements and simple water system repairs. Maintain pneumatic and basic HVAC systems, including air lines, filters, coolers, and moisture traps. Use a tablet to take photos and document completed jobs, maintenance activities, and repairs. Review blueprints and schematics daily to support troubleshooting and repair activities, using your familiarity to identify components and systems. Maintain a clean and organized production floor, including cleaning up work areas after each job. Work effectively in a hot, sometimes dirty environment with oils, dust, and other industrial residues, remaining comfortable with hands-on, dirty work. Participate in an on-call rotation with a small maintenance team to respond to equipment issues based on expertise and availability. Support general shop organization and contribute to a safe, orderly, and efficient work environment. Collaborate with a small maintenance team, communicating clearly about issues, solutions, and ongoing work. Essential Skills Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a maintenance mechanic or equipment mechanic. Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair. Familiarity with blueprints and schematics, with the ability to reference them even if you cannot fully read or interpret every detail. Demonstrated troubleshooting ability in an industrial maintenance setting. Experience performing preventive maintenance and equipment repairs. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and industrial equipment. Ability to work safely and effectively in a very hot environment, especially during warmer months. Reliability and strong attendance, with a commitment to completing assigned work. Willingness and availability to participate in an on-call rotation. Availability and openness to work scheduled weekend hours on a rotating basis. Comfort working in an environment that can be dirty, with oils, dust, and industrial residues. Experience with industrial equipment and systems in a manufacturing or heat treat environment. Exposure to PLC troubleshooting in an industrial setting. Experience with welding for basic repair and maintenance tasks. Hands-on experience with motors, HVAC systems, plumbing, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems. Work Environment This position is based in a heat treat shop with a warm to very hot environment, especially during summer or warmer weather. The shop operates as a smaller, well-organized facility where the overall space is kept relatively clean, although the work itself is dirty and involves exposure to oils, dust, and other industrial residues. You will work primarily on first shift, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role includes participation in an on-call rotation with a three-person maintenance team, responding to equipment issues as needed. There are mandatory scheduled weekend hours on a rotating basis, generally involving half days on Saturdays and Sundays, with the three-person team rotating coverage. The setting is hands-on, industrial, and physically active, with a casual, practical dress style appropriate for dirty, mechanical work and adherence to standard safety and protective equipment requirements.
