Position Summary:

At Ward Leonard, a proud Fairbanks Morse Defense company, we don’t just build products, we support the mission readiness of our military and naval customers around the world. We are seeking a dependable and motivated Shipping & Receiving Clerk to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a company where your work truly matters and directly contributes to supporting those who serve our country.

In this role, you will be responsible for packaging and shipping products in accordance with customer and military specifications. A successful candidate should have the ability to work well with a team, communicate progress effectively, and accurately count, pack, and ship orders.

Responsibilities:

  • Use an ERP system, label generators, and shipping software.
  • Utilize clerical skills such as typing and navigating a computer.
  • Coordinate with multiple freight companies and engage with vendors and drivers with a positive attitude.
  • Work closely with internal departments to expedite orders as necessary.
  • Maintain an organized and clean workspace.
  • Cross-check items against physical and/or digital documents.
  • Inspect items for quality and quantity issues.
  • Maintain item traceability.
  • Monitor outbound and incoming material and orders.
  • Assemble boxes and packaging material.
  • Operate a forklift, crane, saw, and other industrial machinery as necessary.
  • Ensure all outbound shipments are properly packaged, labeled, and documented to meet customer and military specifications.
  • Verify accuracy of all incoming and outgoing materials to maintain strict quality and traceability standards.
  • Support production and shipping priorities by helping expedite urgent orders when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety procedures and facility operational standards.
  • Contribute to a team-focused environment where communication and reliability are essential to mission success.
  • Take ownership of daily workflow to ensure timely movement of materials through the shipping and receiving process.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying ways to improve accuracy, efficiency, and organization in the shipping area.

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification from an accredited school.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of manufacturing experience.

Position Criteria:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Strong sense of time management and ability to prioritize urgent workloads.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting work orders, packing slips, and certifications.
  • Ability to safely operate industrial equipment such as forklifts, cranes, saws, and hand tools.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, reach, and stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP systems, and data entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with internal teams, drivers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through in daily responsibilities.

Note:

This position requires access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NOFORN), which is not releasable to foreign nationals. Candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and attest to not holding dual citizenship. Acceptable documentation includes a U.S. Passport, U.S. Birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate.
