General Production Technician - 3rd Shift Job Description The General Production Technician works on the production floor performing hourly rounds across key checkpoints in mixing, forming, inspection, and finishing areas. During production, this role monitors equipment and product quality, documents findings, and ensures compliance with food safety standards. During non-production or down time, the technician works in a small office environment to enter and verify data collected from previous rounds, supporting accurate records and continuous improvement efforts. Responsibilities Perform hourly rounds on the production floor, visiting all assigned checkpoints in mixtures, forming, inspection, and finishing areas. Check equipment and production areas before start-up and during operation to verify they are clean, safe, and ready for use. Monitor product safety and quality throughout the shift, ensuring adherence to established specifications and standards. Review production parameters and verify compliance through direct observation and record reviews. Conduct pre-operational inspections and changeover inspections to ensure equipment and lines meet requirements before production begins or resumes. Document any issues, nonconformances, or deviations identified during rounds, and record the corrective actions taken. Support root-cause investigations by accurately capturing data, observations, and trends related to product quality or process issues. Participate in improvement efforts by providing feedback and data to help refine processes and enhance product quality and food safety. Conduct SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure) inspections while the plant is running to confirm sanitation practices meet requirements. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records of inspections, checks, and production parameters in both paper and electronic formats. Use computer systems to enter, verify, and update data collected from production rounds and inspections. Collaborate with other team members in QX Systems, Blending and Offline Projects, or Dock and Offline Projects to ensure smooth, compliant operations. Follow all food safety, quality, and workplace safety procedures and report any concerns promptly. Stand and move throughout the production floor for extended periods while performing inspections and checks. Handle general production tasks such as assembly, general labor, packaging, and microscope-based inspection as needed to support operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in food manufacturing or a closely related production environment. Experience with production, inspection, and quality inspection in a manufacturing setting. Working knowledge of food safety practices and standards within a production environment. Ability to stand and walk on the production floor for 8 or more hours per shift. Strong basic math skills, including the ability to divide, multiply, and work with fractions and decimals. At least 2 years of experience with computer use and data entry in a production or office environment. Experience performing general labor, assembly, and packaging tasks in a manufacturing setting. Ability to perform visual inspections and use tools such as a microscope for detailed quality checks. Attention to detail and accuracy when monitoring production parameters and completing records. Ability to follow established procedures, including SSOPs, pre-operational checks, and changeover inspections. Strong observational skills to identify equipment, process, or product issues during production. Capability to work independently on assigned routes and tasks while coordinating with the broader production team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting root-cause investigations and process improvement initiatives in a production or quality environment. Familiarity with QX Systems, blending operations, dock operations, or offline project work in a manufacturing setting. Comfort working with both paper-based and electronic recordkeeping systems. Ability to communicate clearly with production, quality, and maintenance teams regarding issues and corrective actions. Organizational skills to manage multiple checkpoints, inspections, and documentation tasks within a shift. Willingness to work overnight hours and maintain focus and accuracy throughout the shift. Work Environment This position is based in a production facility operating on 3rd shift, typically from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday through Monday. You spend a significant portion of the shift on the production floor performing rounds, inspections, and checks in areas such as mixing, forming, inspection, and finishing. The environment includes active manufacturing lines, equipment, and food production processes, requiring adherence to food safety and sanitation standards. You also work in small office spaces during down time to complete computer-based data entry and recordkeeping tasks. The role involves standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended periods, as well as working with tools such as microscopes and computer systems. Appropriate production and safety attire, including any required protective clothing and equipment, is expected in all relevant areas of the facility. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Manitowoc, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
