Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Plant Manager to support daily operations within our dairy production facility. This role is responsible for coordinating production schedules, managing inventory, purchasing ingredients and packaging materials, and supervising employees to ensure all processes meet strict food safety, sanitation, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will help maintain compliance with FDA regulations and ensure products are handled safely from production through distribution.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning and scheduling daily dairy production to meet customer demand and delivery timelines
Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory levels of raw ingredients, dairy products, and packaging materials (bottles, containers, labels, etc.)
Monitor inventory accuracy, rotation (FIFO), and storage conditions to ensure product freshness and minimize waste
Schedule employees to ensure proper staffing across all production and sanitation functions
Supervise and support team members to ensure tasks are completed correctly, efficiently, and safely
Enforce strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and quality standards, including FDA, HACCP, and company policies
Conduct routine inspections of equipment, work areas, and cold storage to ensure cleanliness and compliance
Ensure proper cleaning and sanitization procedures are followed, especially for production equipment and contact surfaces
Maintain temperature control standards in refrigerated and cold storage areas
Assist with audits, documentation, and recordkeeping related to food safety and regulatory compliance
Identify process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain product quality
Address employee performance issues and provide training and guidance as needed
Qualifications
Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment required; dairy experience preferred
Knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA, HACCP, GMPs) strongly preferred
Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced production environment
High attention to detail with a focus on quality, safety, and sanitation
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and inventory systems)
Willingness to learn all aspects of dairy production operations
Work Environment
Fast-paced dairy manufacturing facility
Regular exposure to cold storage and refrigerated environments
Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting
Must follow all safety and sanitation protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
