Job Description

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design, development, launch, and continuous improvement of metal stampings and related tooling. This role partners closely with Design Engineering, Production Engineering, Purchasing, and Quality to support cost, quality, and delivery objectives. The position ensures robust tooling solutions, optimized tooling performance, and timely resolution of technical issues throughout the product life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in the design, development, and validation of metal stamping dies, forming processes, and related tooling to meet product, quality, and production requirements.
  • Support supplier manufacturing operations by troubleshooting tooling/process issues, directing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, efficiency, and scrap.
  • Support new product and tooling launches by participating at local vendor tryouts, approving tooling readiness, and ensuring on-time, cost-effective implementation through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Collaborate with tooling suppliers and vendors to define technical requirements, review designs, manage build progress, and ensure parts production meet quality and performance expectations.

Essential Skills

  • 4+ years of experience in the design and manufacturing of complex, high-precision metal stamping tooling, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Demonstrated automotive industry experience with a strong understanding of high-volume production and quality requirements.
  • Proficiency in CAD and forming simulation software such as SolidWorks, Cimatron, AutoForm, or equivalent tools, along with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Advanced working knowledge of GD&T, measurement techniques, material behavior, and metal forming processes and simulations.
  • Experience with RFQ processes with suppliers, including quoting, supplier selection, designing automation and auxiliary equipment, and launching it.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective business relationships with a diverse base of global tooling and component suppliers.

Work Environment

This role is onsite within a team of 6 in the Injection Moulding division of the Production Engineering group, which consists of 30+ people including 10-12 on the assembly side. Work is typically Monday to Friday with flexible start times between 7:30 AM and 9 AM. The environment offers great learning opportunities with exposure to different specializations and departments within a growing automotive facility. The role will start with working alongside process specialists and process engineering to ensure comfort in the position, with responsibilities focused on the injection molding side which includes around 58 injection molding machines and approximately 200 production tools.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
