Position Summary
The 1st Shift Production Supervisor is accountable for planning, organizing, assisting, and directing the activities of production process areas to safely provide quality finished goods, on time to customer request, while assuring optimum utilization of assigned materials, capital, and manpower resources to achieve objectives.
They will be responsible for executing the shop floor schedule in support of plant and facility goals and assure optimum utilization of material, machines, and manpower. It is expected that the Production Supervisor will be technically capable of assisting Production, Engineering, and New Product Introduction teams with improved manufacturing methods, troubleshooting, and the introduction of new technology within the facility when required.
The incumbent will direct, lead, and coordinate production activities, drive teamwork and inclusion, develop team members, lead and champion the Parker Lean System and be a resource for production team members. They will conduct periodic progress reviews, initiate problem solving, implement action plans to correct unfavorable deviations, and provide recognition for positive performances.
The incumbent assists the Production Leader in the shift operation of their respective responsibilities in the production of quality products and processes to a pre-determined schedule in support of goals. To meet these schedules, the incumbent is required, when necessary, to coordinate direction and priorities for schedule changes and equipment utilization and to control equipment, process and product deviations. They conduct performance appraisals, individual development plans, practice positive discipline techniques and provide individual counseling/coaching for members.
Responsibilities
Promote a safe work environment and operating procedures within the department; maintain a constant awareness of regulations, including EEOC, OSHA, EPA, promoting compliance to all
Maintain optimum staffing levels to meet customer demands at the lowest possible cost with the highest level of operating effectiveness
Execute production schedules for the day to day activities of the department to ensure delivery of quality products on time to meet customer requirements
Maintain manufacturing continuity between all shifts
Communicate effectively with peers and teams with respect to the status of the operation and any operational issues that are affecting delivery
Meet with team members periodically during the shift to communicate expectations, follow-up to determine if there are any barriers, and close at the end of the shift
Administer annual performance appraisal. Provide ongoing feedback, training, and mentoring to staff
Work with peers and manage with a team approach
Continuous improvement of production systems to continually improve safety and reduce costs
Provide effective feedback to management relative to shop floor barriers, personnel issues, and/or equipment issues
1st Shift Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Qualifications
Mandatory:
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with one to five years' experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to learn and understand MRP system (SAP) and its capabilities to effectively manage the shift
Ability to learn and understand company policies, procedures, applicable regulations, products and processes
Demonstrated organizational and communication skills sufficient to effectively schedule equipment and personnel ranging from 10 to 40 people
Must have the ability to do the job without direct threat or significant risk of health and safety of themselves or other employees
Ability to effectively communicate with the management team, direct reports, and internal/external customers
Writing skills sufficient for writing performance appraisals and to develop justifications for capital equipment
Ability to objectively evaluate subordinate employees' performance
Good conflict management abilities
Basic understanding of personal computers, operating systems and spreadsheet software
Ability to climb stairs (25% of the time), stand (up to 100% of the time), walk (75% of the time), lift up to 70 pounds (25% of the time), push/pull (75% of the time), bend 90 degrees (90% of the time)
Non-Mandatory:
Ability to lead short to medium-term projects, effectively managing three to five employees from various groups
Algebraic math skills and knowledge of statistics
Strong knowledge of SAP
Strong knowledge of a MRP system
