Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler operates a sit-down propane forklift to move lumber from the outdoor yard to the saw area in a busy manufacturing and distribution environment. This role supports production by accurately pulling, staging, and organizing materials while working safely in all weather conditions. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down propane forklift to transport lumber from the outdoor yard to the saw and production areas. Pull and stage lumber and related materials according to work orders and production schedules. Load and unload materials in the yard and loading area in a safe and efficient manner. Support inventory activities by accurately picking, moving, and organizing materials within the yard and warehouse areas. Follow established procedures for material handling to prevent damage to products and equipment. Work closely with production staff to ensure timely delivery of materials to multiple truss tables and cutting saws. Inspect forklift and related equipment before use and report any maintenance or safety concerns. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both indoor and outdoor locations. Adhere to all safety guidelines and use required safety practices while operating equipment and working in the yard. Essential Skills Current or recent experience operating a sit-down propane forklift in a warehouse, yard, or manufacturing environment. Forklift certification or demonstrated ability to meet forklift certification requirements. At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse or distribution role. Proven ability to perform material picking and inventory-related tasks accurately. Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions while performing material handling duties. Basic understanding of warehouse safety practices and equipment operation procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing or lumber/truss environment. Familiarity with handling lumber and building materials in a yard or loading area. Ability to communicate effectively with production and warehouse team members. Strong attention to detail when pulling and staging materials for saw and truss operations. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility with multiple buildings, including areas with several truss tables and cutting saws. The position primarily works in the outdoor yard and loading area, moving lumber and materials between the yard and production spaces. You will operate a sit-down propane forklift on a regular basis and navigate active manufacturing and warehouse zones. The work is performed in all weather conditions, so you should be prepared for outdoor work throughout the year. The environment is production-oriented, with a focus on safety, efficient material flow, and coordination between yard, warehouse, and manufacturing operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of WEST FARGO, ND. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
