We are seeking a driven and hands-on Assistant Plant Manager to support daily plant operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in operational leadership, process improvement, and team development. This position offers strong growth potential, with a clear path toward a Plant Manager role.

Key Responsibilities Operations & Production Management
  • Oversee daily plant operations including production, scheduling, maintenance, shipping, and receiving

  • Ensure production targets for volume, quality, and efficiency are consistently met

  • Approve production schedules to meet customer deadlines and optimize throughput

Team Leadership & Development
  • Hire, train, and manage plant personnel across multiple departments

  • Drive employee engagement, retention, and performance development

  • Foster a collaborative and accountable work environment

Process Improvement & Quality
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across production processes

  • Ensure adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Maintain safety and quality standards, including ISO 9001:2015 compliance

Maintenance & Equipment
  • Ensure all plant equipment is properly maintained and fully operational

  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime

Cost & Vendor Management
  • Negotiate with suppliers for plant purchases and materials

  • Manage and control plant-related costs effectively

  • Support accurate quoting for new production jobs

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Collaborate with Inside Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping teams

  • Ensure smooth communication and alignment across departments

  • Monitor and maintain outbound shipping timelines

Qualifications Required
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Customer-focused mindset

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a Steel Service Center or Metal Industry

  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment
