Title: Shop ForemanLocation: Livingston, NJCompensation: $80K-$100KPosition OverviewLead and manage daily shop operations for a machining and fabrication facility. The Shop Foreman is responsible for coordinating production schedules, supervising machinists and fabricators, ensuring quality and safety standards, and liaising with engineering and management to meet delivery targets and continuous improvement goals.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise, mentor and schedule shop personnel including machinists, CNC operators, welders and fabricators to meet production targets and maintain quality.Plan, assign and prioritize work orders; interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and job travellers to ensure correct machining and fabrication processes.Set up, program verification and oversee operation of CNC machines and conventional machinery; ensure proper fixturing, tooling and machining parameters.Perform first article inspections and quality checks; enforce dimensional tolerances, surface finish specifications and documentation requirements.Coordinate preventive maintenance and troubleshooting for shop machinery to maximize uptime and extend equipment life.Collaborate with engineering and production planning to optimize processes, reduce cycle times and implement cost-saving initiatives.Maintain inventory of tooling, fixtures, consumables and spare parts; order supplies and manage vendor relationships as needed.Enforce shop safety procedures and regulatory compliance; conduct safety meetings, training and incident investigations.Train staff on machining techniques, best practices, reading prints, use of measuring instruments and CNC operation.Prepare daily/weekly production reports, track KPIs (on-time delivery, scrap rates, machine utilization) and communicate status to management.Qualifications5+ years hands-on experience in machining and fabrication with at least 3 years in a lead or foreman role or equivalent supervisory experience.Proven machinist skills: experience with CNC programming/operation, milling, turning, and conventional machine tools.Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, welding and fabrication processes, fixturing and tooling selection.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and technical documentation.Experience with shop management: scheduling, workflow optimization, inventory control and preventive maintenance.Demonstrated leadership and people management skills including training, coaching and performance management.Proficiency with CNC controllers and CAM software is highly desirable.Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for mechanical and machining issues.Committed to safety with experience enforcing shop safety practices and conducting training; relevant certifications a plus.High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree in machining, mechanical engineering technology or related field preferred.BenefitsBase Salary: $80K-$100KMedical, Vision, DentalM-F 8AM-4:30PM schedule
