TOOL & DIE SUPERVISOR

The Tool and Die Supervisor is a critical leadership role within the manufacturing environment, responsible for overseeing the design, production, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in mass production. This position combines advanced technical expertise in machining and metal forming with strong leadership and organizational skills to ensure high-quality, efficient, and safe manufacturing operations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Diploma or certification in Machining, Tool and Die Making, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum 57 years of experience in tool and die making or machining, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Proficiency with CNC programming and operation preferred
  • Experience in structural or platework fabrication, metal forming , or related trades an asset

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Coordination
    • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of tool and die makers, machinists, metal formers, and related personnel.
    • Establish work methods and schedules to meet production and quality objectives.
    • Coordinate workflow and resource allocation across departments to optimize efficiency.
    • Supervise, train, and mentor apprentices, machine operators, helpers, and laborers.
  • Production Oversight
    • Oversee the design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, dies, and fixtures.
    • Set up machines and equipment, and program CNC machine tools as required.
    • Ensure that all production meets dimensional and quality specifications.
    • Requisition materials and supplies needed for production activities.
  • Process Improvement & Problem Solving
    • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and quality.
    • Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and production teams to address manufacturing challenges and implement process improvements.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and enhance cost efficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Enforce adherence to safety standards and ensure a safe working environment.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational, industry, and regulatory safety practices.
    • Maintain records and prepare production and safety reports as required.
