About the company:

Founded by ex-Apple Product and Engineering leaders , ASSA ABLOY Level is redefining the smart home with technology that is simple, intuitive, useful, and invisible . At Level, we take a unique approach to designing products - one that shifts focus from what we make to how we make it and who we make it for. Its an approach that results in elegant and unique solutions, raising the bar for the entire smart home ecosystem.

Now part of the ASSA ABLOY family, a global leader in access solutions, ASSA ABLOY Level is positioned to accelerate innovation and expand our reach even further. This partnership strengthens our ability to deliver world-class smart home experiences while maintaining the vision and design excellence that have always set us apart.

About the Role:

The Senior Manufacturing Design & Process Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing processes for new and existing products. This role requires a heavy emphasis on statistical analysis and data-driven methodologies to ensure we meet quality, yield, and output targets. The position involves close collaboration with design engineering, quality teams, and international manufacturing partners.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Process Development & Control: Design, implement, and maintain statistically controlled (SPC) manufacturing processes. Develop and automate data collection systems using data analysis tools to monitor key process indicators.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Act as the primary manufacturing interface to the design engineering team. Use statistical tolerance analysis, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R), and Design of Experiments (DOE) to guide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities.
  • Data Analysis and Visualization: Perform rigorous analysis of manufacturing data to identify sources of variation and drive corrective actions. Create and maintain process monitoring dashboards using data analysis tools to report on performance, yield, and process capability. Lead formal root cause analysis (RCA) investigations.
  • Automation & Equipment Engineering: Act as the technical lead for the specification, characterization, and qualification of automated and manual assembly and inspection equipment. Use process capability data (Cp/Cpk) to validate equipment performance against design and production requirements. Engage with vendors to ensure equipment meets technical specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize formal problem-solving methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, FMEA) to systematically improve manufacturing line performance, reduce scrap, and increase throughput.

Required Qualifications:

Statistical Analysis Proficiency:

  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab, or similar with scientific computing libraries).
  • Extensive practical application of SPC, including control chart implementation (e.g., I-MR, Xbar-R) and interpretation.
  • In-depth experience designing and analyzing DOEs (e.g., factorial, response surface) to solve complex process problems.
  • Thorough understanding and execution of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and GR&R.
  • Expertise in process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) and its application for process validation and monitoring.

Manufacturing Engineering Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering, with at least 3 years focused on precision mechanical assembly for consumer products.

Technical Knowledge Base:

  • Strong competency in interpreting mechanical drawings and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Proficiency with data querying languages (SQL) and scripting for data analysis (Python).
  • Familiarity with industrial robotics, motion control systems, and PLC/PC-based machine control.

Professional Attributes:

  • Demonstrated project management skills in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage evolving priorities.
  • Experience working directly with international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
  • Ability to support a travel schedule of approximately 25% to manufacturing and supplier sites.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related technical discipline

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The salary range for this role is $150K-$200K and we consider a broad sco
  • pe of factors when making compensation decisions.
  • In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, a bonus plan, a 401(k) plan, education assistance, and an environment that reflects our commitment to our employees.

More about ASSA ABLOY Level Home:

When we look around our homes today, we see opportunity. We see smart products that lack utility and connected devices that push us further apart. We see consumers with high expectations, current standards set too low, and products that simply fail to deliver.

ASSA ABLOY Level is re-inventing the standard. Were redefining smart, to center around thoughtfulness, practicality, and the people who make the problem worth solving. We approach product design with a blank slate, zero assumptions, and an open mind because the way a problem is defined sets the stage for its solution. We couple deep expertise with unbridled curiosity, because to us smart means simple, intuitive, and useful.

We start with empathy, take new perspectives, and challenge existing standards. People are at the heart of what we do, and respecting their style, choices, and preferences is the first step to uncovering a thoughtful solution that truly improves their daily lives. After all, were not just designing products for a house, we are designing them for the people who make it a home.
