Under the supervision of a lead technician or supervisor, the Facilities Mechanical Rotating Equipment Technician Senior ensures uninterrupted operation of mechanical systems and equipment, with a focus on rotating machinery and structural welding. This role involves inspecting, testing, installing, fabricating, modifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, gearboxes, belt drives, blowers, and fans. The technician also fabricates and repairs structural steel components and leads a team of facilities technicians, providing mentorship and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:Technical Specialties (55%)
- Install, maintain, and repair rotating equipment and components (e.g., bearings, belts, couplings, mechanical seals).
- Perform vibration analysis and equipment alignment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and structural welding.
- Respond to emergency situations and correct defects.
Mentorship & Leadership (20%)
- Lead and coordinate work of facilities technicians.
- Mentor and train staff; facilitate on-the-job training.
- Distribute work orders in supervisors absence.
General Duties (25%)
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Document regulatory tests and update building drawings.
- Troubleshoot field issues and assist other trades.
- Manage small projects and provide technical support.
- Maintain records, submit purchase requests, and communicate with stakeholders.
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance, millwright, or machinist trade.
- Proficiency with tools and equipment used in mechanical maintenance.
- Valid drivers license.
- Ability to obtain OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health card during probationary period.
- Understanding of university building design standards and project processes.
- Associates or technical degree in a skilled trade or maintenance-related field.
- Boiler operators license (low or high pressure).
- Valid OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
- Rigging and structural welding.
- Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Time and resource management.
- Team building and conflict resolution.
- Basic computer proficiency and customer service.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of AC/DC theory and safety standards.
- Ability to push/pull up to 70 lbs.
- Distinguish colors and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Work in hot, cold, dusty, dirty, or cramped environments.
- Subject to shift changes, overtime, and 24-hour emergency call.
- May work in challenging environments for extended periods.

The pay range for this profile is $ 28.70 - $35.88/ hourly. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, units available budget, and the candidates qualifications
