The grounds maintenance and landscape unit is a component of the Physical Plant Department. Its mission is to properly and safely maintain/beautify LSUE' s campus which comprises of approximately 100 acres of land. Numerous trees, shrubs, flower beds and
manicured lawns are positioned throughout the campus. Other key areas and focal points on campus that require detailed attention
include the Chancellor's residence lawn and flower beds, the baseball field, two primary boulevard entrances to the campus, outside fountain, courtyards, etc. In addition to this primary mission, this unit also provides support to the Physical Plant in the area of setups for special events, campus deliveries and the maintenance of the motor pool fleet which includes approximately 20 vehicles. The role of the person filling the Mobile Equipment Operator Light position is to operate and provide general maintenance to the associated
equipment needed to maintain and beautify the campus along with other duties as outlined below.
70% - Equipment Operator
Operate all equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator - Light as necessary along with associated general maintenance functions as follows:
Operate several 20 horsepower rotary mowers .
Operate various utility vehicles such as 2x4 & 4x6 Gators, Genie Lift, etc .
Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment such as checking fluid levels; sharpening blades, keeping filters/equipment clean and in safe operating condition.
20% - General Maintenance
Routine general inspections, maintenance, cleaning, etc., to motor pool & shop vehicles . Pressure washing exterior of buildings
Edging along sidewalks and blowing off grass & other debris .
Spraying roundup around building, light poles & ditches on campus .
Weed-eating around bushes, trees, fenced areas, and landscape timbers .
Trimming all low-lying tree limbs and picking up branches .
Emptying all exterior garbage receptacles on campus and properly disposing campus debris . Raking cigarette butts at entrances and exits of buildings.
10% -Other
Transport and set up tables, chairs, stages, and tents for designated functions on and off campus for events such as
commencement, special banquets, festivals, etc.
Deliver various pieces of equipment, furniture, paper, supplies, and other miscellaneous packages/freight items from the central _rece1vmg to the appropriate locations on campus.
Paint offices and classrooms during the winter months
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
