Machine Operator

Shear Operator Job Description We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Machine Operator. In this role, you will operate industrial metal machines to cut metal rebar to specified lengths and tolerances, ensuring quality, precision, and adherence to production schedules. Responsibilities Set up, operate, and maintain hydraulic and mechanical shear equipment for cutting rebar. Interpret production orders, blueprints, or cut sheets to determine required dimensions. Measure and inspect cut rebar using gauges, calipers, and tape measures to ensure accuracy. Monitor machine performance and perform basic troubleshooting to maintain productivity. Safely handle heavy materials and ensure a clean, organized work environment. Report any irregularities, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to supervisors. Collaborate with team members to meet daily production goals. Essential Skills Experience with shear machines Proficiency in blueprint reading Ability to use tape measures and calipers Experience in machine setup Knowledge of press brake and CNC operations Sheet metal fabrication skills Punch press operation experience Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting Ability to handle long steel rebar and bulky items safely Effective communication skills for team collaboration Work Environment This is a heavy industrial manufacturing setting that involves working around large, powerful machinery and heavy steel materials. You can expect a bustling production floor with hydraulic and mechanical equipment in operation, exposure to high noise levels, vibrations, and varying temperatures. Routine handling of long steel rebar and other bulky items is involved. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection is mandatory. A team-focused atmosphere where safety and efficiency are top priorities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Castle, Delaware. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
