Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient set up, inspection and operation of equipment/machinery utilized in the processing of pet food products. Additionally responsible for following standard operating procedures, including but not limited to, completing production related paperwork and meeting product specifications. Expected equipment/machinery experience includes but is not limited to, plate freezers, grinders, micro cutters, de-boners, and meat pumps.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Personnel Safety policies/procedures, including the use of proper PPE, as well as ensuring the safe use of required tools and equipment.
  • Follow all Food Safety, Quality Assurance, GMPs and general plant policies/procedures.
  • Ability to independently set up, inspect and safely and efficiently operate multiple pieces of pet food processing equipment/machinery.
  • Ability to inspect products for overall appearance according to customer and QA/Food Safety requirements and communicate with crew leader when non-conforming products are present.
  • Understand and follow blend sheets.
  • Make approved adjustments per crew leaders direction to ensure product is manufactured within customer specifications.
  • Communicate with crew leader and other crew members to maintain a proper flow of raw materials and finished product(s) throughout the entire production process.
  • Communicate with production supervisors/crew leaders to ensure that all parties are aware of any safety or environmental issues.
  • At end of shift, secure all equipment, perform general housekeeping duties and turn in all required paperwork.
  • Ability to work overtime as department and plant operations demand.
  • Flexible hours as needed.
  • Complete necessary production paperwork for documenting process parameters and production requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret blend sheets, downtime reports and other data tracking materials including tracking weights and yields.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Preferred:

  • Basic mathematical skills required; addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Strong reading and writing skills.
  • 6 months of manufacturing operation experience
  • Previous production equipment and machinery operation experience and experience in food industry highly desirable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Demands and Work Environment:

  • Exposure to wet conditions.
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, grasp with both hands, or feel; substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; reaching and pulling with hands and arms.
  • Prolonged standing or sitting - Occasional walking is required for short distances.
  • Ability to consistently move/drag/lift up to 60 lbs frozen raw materials on a regular basis.
  • Frequent stretching out of arms, and use of upper body.
  • Occasional turning and twisting at the waist.
  • Continuous exposure to temperatures ranging from 10F 85F degrees.
