Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Sets up and operates one or more multiple spindle screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to perform various machining operations on metal bar stock, analyzing specifications and deciding on tooling according to knowledge of screw machine operations. Primary duties and responsibilities: Studies blueprint, visualizes machining to be done, dimensions of parts and permissible tolerances. Installs collets, bushings and stock pushers in stock-feeding mechanism, using wrenches and screwdrivers and other hand tools. Installs and adjusts cams, gears and stops to control stock and tool movements. Positions and secures tools in tool holders, verifying positions with gauges and other measuring instruments. Moves controls or changes gears to set cutting speeds and feed rates. Cranks machine through cycle, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for such factors as timing, clearance between moving parts and chip removal. Starts machine, observes operation and verifies conformance to specifications of first-run and sample workpieces, using precision measuring instruments Operates machine and replaces worn tooling as required. Operates surface, bench and tool grinder to sharpen tools. May instruct or setup machines for other workers. May be required to have experience with particular material, product or machine of particular size, type, or trade name. Cleans machine, tooling and parts and removes chips from machine sumps as necessary. Performs machine maintenance and repairs as required. Uses statistical process control techniques when applicable. Interacts with supervisor and/or engineering staff to improve productivity or troubleshoot machining problems. Maintains general cleanliness of work area utilizing 5S techniques and methods. Maintains production records using time/production cards, layout sheets, programs, etc. Performs other related duties and assignments as required. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to the information is frequently involved. Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to helpers or assistants. Preparing machines for operation by planning order of successive machine operations, installing and adjusting tools and other machine components, adjusting the position of workpiece or material, setting controls, and verifying accuracy of machine capabilities, properties of materials and shop practices. Uses tools, equipment, and work aids, such as precision gauges and measuring instruments. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of one year factory related experience. Reasoning Ability: Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form. Mathematical Skills: Algebra -calculate variables and formulas, monomials and polynomials, ratio and proportion variables, and square root and radicals. Geometry -calculate plane and solid figures, circumference, area, volume and understand kinds of angles and properties of pairs of angles. Shop Math -add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
