JOB DESCRIPTION:

Perform duties to plan, construct, modify and repair a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs and fixtures to very close tolerence including development work.

Work from prints, samples, sketches and instructions to disassemble, check die dimensions, diagnose problem, determine extent of repair necessary, sequence repair operations, plan, make up jigs, fixtures, repair parts, install, test and time compound and progressive dies, make tool tryouts and perform incidental machine operations as necessary.

  1. Plan and construct a wide variety of tools, dies, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances, or construct more complex units where design is available.
  2. Operate tool room machinery in a safe manner during the build process.
  3. Troubleshoot dies in the press and make necessary changes and adjustments.
  4. Set-up and operate conventional machines.
  5. Perform all other duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tool and Die Certification
  • Must have at least 6 years or more of Tool & Die experience
  • Routine die maintenance skills; troubleshooting experience for compound and progressive dies
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Good machinist skills or machine maintenance skills

Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on compound and progressive stamping dies
  • Work from shop orders, tool drawings, part blueprints and specifications, and verbal instructions
  • Assist with tool maintenance including breakdowns at the press and new tool debug runs
  • Follow all applicable safety policies, recommend safety improvements where observed
  • Work closely with Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers
  • Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing / production environment

Desired, but not required:

  • Setup and operate wire EDM (including programming)
  • Setup and operate CNC mills and lathes (including programming)
  • Ability to design and implement tool improvements and design new compound and progressive tooling 
  • Experience with die safety / sensors and press controls
