The Role -
Amphenol Aerospace Operations is seeking a Plating Process Engineer to work outof its state-of-the-art facility in Sidney, NY.
The key responsibilities of the Plating Process Engineer include, but are notlimited to:
Provides technical expertise necessary to ensure efficient operations inelectroplating.Develops and implements short-term and long-range processes and programsthat effectively improve departmental delivery, quality, and budgetary goals.Plans, coordinates, and implements new plating processes that assure AAOproduction needs are met. This includes finish recommendations to meetcustomer requirements, engineering print approval, and the issue and maintenanceof manufacturing layouts, as well as plating specifications.Supervises or coordinates the work of technical people to meet departmentalobjectives.Interfaces with customers to solve field problems.Initiates and supervises programs related to metal and plastic and metal andplastic finishing programs. Generates metal and plastic finishing specificationsand manufacturing layouts and consults with Engineering and Quality.Establishes and tracks required connector quality assurance testing weeklyand monthly such as salt spray, tabor abrasion, corrosion of conversion coatingsas defined by military and customer specifications, provides troubleshooting andfailure analysis of plating finishes.Identifies and evaluates new plating systems for product improvement andcost reduction.Provides engineering support to customer inquiries as required.Reviews and revises existing processes and documentation to affirm validity.Coordinates corrective action for out of control events in production.Answers corrective actions and establishes procedures to correct manufacturingprocess defects.Provides immediate process/troubleshooting assistance to support team effortin meeting delivery and quality goals.Provides support to Plating team in meeting safety and environmental goals.Works with support departments and outside vendors to design, adaptequipment to specific plating applications and requirements.Responsible for documentation to support control of precious metalconsumption.Provides assistance to Plant Engineering in areas of plating equipmentdesign, calculations of ventilation requirements, and waste treatmentrequirements.Develops process flow diagrams for new/existing products
Salary: $61,500 - $85,000

The key skills and qualities of a Plating Process Engineer at Amphenol AerospaceOperations:
Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering or related science.Required 3-10 years of electroplating or plating experience in an R & D orprocess related position. Experience in a multi-faceted metal finishingoperation that produces finished parts, ideally for aerospace and militaryconnectors as well as industrial applications.Training in Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and StatisticalProcess Control.Desired but not required are Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, AmericanElectroplating and Surface Finishing Certified Electroplating -Finisher (CEF)Certificate or AESF Foundation Master Surface Finisher (MSF).Mastery of metal finishing process and chemistry.Working knowledge of quality systems, process control, statistical analysis,manufacturing processing safety practice.Strong project management, structured problem solving with the ability tomake ethical decisions, data analysis, working knowledge and application of SPC,ISO, and IPC standards.Understanding of military and NADCAP specifications and qualifications.Ability to work in fast paced environment, with attention to detail; abilityto produce results and meet strict deadlines.Employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk and occasionallycarry, lift, or move up to 40 pounds.Must be capable of working in a chemical environment that contains hazardousmaterial and/or solutions. Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust,fumes and temperature variations. Must wear appropriate PPE equipment, includingeye and hearing protection and safety shoes.Continuously required to move about the plating floor that contains closequarters.Occasional travel required.Must be eligible to work on defense and satellite programs subject to ITARRegulations. Therefore, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. permanentResident (Green Card).
