Job Description

Berg Steel Pipe in Panama City, Florida, is currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes. The Maintenance Technician repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components and applies knowledge of mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and restores equipment to operation.

This position is a hands on maintenance position requiring ownership, knowledge and proficient use of typical Millwright hand tools.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all onsite work in a safe manner adhering to all Berg pipe safety guidelines for PPE, lock out tag out, fall protection and confined space entry. Identifies and rectifies unsafe conditions for themselves and others.
  • Receives instructions, hydraulic diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and software necessary to perform scheduled, emergency, or routine repairs, calibrations, and preventive maintenance.
  • Operates standard millwright type equipment including but not limited to drill press, hydraulic press, bench grinder, pipe threading machine, pipe bender, stick welder, MIG welder, cutting torch, band saw, lifting/rigging equipment, man lift, forklift, and overhead crane. Supplies usual MW hand tools both metric and SAE.
  • Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces, or installs mechanical and hydraulic components, high or low-pressure piping, fittings, valves, cylinders and fixtures, as required for maintenance and construction of pipe lines for air, water, oil, gas, waste, etc.
  • Answers trouble calls, uses troubleshooting ability to recognize and locate faulty equipment. Dismantles, cleans, adjusts, tests and repairs all plant equipment. Suggests preventive maintenance procedures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Safely performs blocking and rigging and ensures proper use of chain falls, come-a-longs and safety equipment.
  • Using Maximo software, logs all job tasks, work assignments, and corrective actions daily.

Required Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Test score of 65% or higher on Ramsey written test and pass practical skills assessment test – both administered by Berg.

Preferred Education and Work Experience

  • Post-secondary education.
  • 5+ years mechanical experience in heavy, industrial manufacturing.
