POSITION SUMMARY:
This position requires a seasoned manager with experience integrating HS&E issues for a major and complex organization. The incumbent will be involved in ‘hands on' project management and change management. Must lead the HS&E community in the development of strategies and polices in the area of HS&E. The incumbent will also provide professional guidance, support and coaching to the operations, manufacturing, and human resources management on safety, health and environmental activities as dictated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other local, state and federal agencies with specific emphasis on manufacturing areas. This manager is responsible for multiple sites to include Littleton Colorado, Brookville Ohio, Farmington Connecticut (KIP), Las Vegas Nevada (Kloehn) and Michigan (Automotive Group) that require more complex and detailed facility and operations related permits.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and oversee environmental site assessments with environmental engineering consultants (Phases I, II).
- As required, negotiate all enforcement actions, notices of violation, informal settlement agreements, administrative orders and permit agreements.
- Identify, develop and submit all required reports to local, state and federal governmental environmental agencies.
- Develop protocols and supporting policies and procedures for all safety, health and environmental programs and systems.
- Advise senior management on the compliance status, costs and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance.
- Assess the impact of safety, health and environmental laws and regulations as they affect the company and its operations; as well as, track new regulations as they develop. Formulate and implement policies, procedures and programs for compliance.
- Represent the company on all contested OSHA enforcement actions, citations, informal conferences and settlement agreements.
- Manage the activities of outside and in-house legal counsel representing the company to ensure adequate legal advice is provided to the company regarding safety, health and environmental matters.
- Establish best practices and cultivate a culture where the multiple sites’ personnel recognize, report and take appropriate actions for violations of company guidelines and work practices.
- Maintain ISO 14000 Environmental Management Systems.
- Lead role in responding to workplace incidents and accidents. Must develop detailed reporting systems, courses of action in response to incidents and accidents, and notification to local, state and federal agencies. In addition report accidents through parent company (IMI) system on a monthly basis.
- Identify need for employee training around safety, emergency response and health consistent with OSHA regulatory requirements. Develops training requirements and responsible for delivery of training and measurement of effectiveness.
- Take the lead on EH&S matters concerning the business initiative termed Responsible Business for US sites.
- Participate in Global HR Leadership meetings as required.
EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
- Highly skilled at identifying and developing good working relationships with state and local authorities (state/local environmental and safety agencies, wastewater authorities, fire departments, etc.) as well as appropriate internal Environmental, Health and Safety contacts.
- Background in large, complex, global organizations with success driven by leading-edge technology in Environmental, Health & Safety issues.
- Incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with employees at all levels and influence desired change.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience years related experience in environmental, health & safety management. (Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred)
- Sound knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements; environmental policies and significant environmental impact of job activities in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
- Related Undergraduate Degree (Environmental, safety, industrial hygiene, industrial risk management, safety management or manufacturing engineering is preferred).
- Strong experience working in manufacturing in six sigma / lean / continuous improvement environments is preferred.
- CIH & CSP certifications required.
