We operate two different types of single head embroidery machines and the operator will be expected to run both machines. One machine is used for pet collars and leashes and the other machine is used for putting names & logos on various items. The embroidery employees are expected to help other departments when their work is completed and this will most likely include things like; assembling point of sale displays, packaging brochures for mailing and sometimes may include cleaning, preparing, quality checking and packaging customer orders. Other tasks and duties will be assigned as needed. All employees are expected to be able to meet production quotas and quality standards. Reports to Machine Shop Lead A FLSA NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE Run set up program and operate variety of machine tools, such as drill press, manual and CNC lathes, and manual and CNC milling machines to custom machine metal parts. Determine tooling needs applying knowledge of metal properties, machining and shop mathematics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform sign-off on work order paperwork with neatness and accuracy for every task completed. Receive verbal and/or written guidance and instruction from supervisor on some tasks, especially pertaining to time constraints or unique specifications. Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining. Select method of holding workpiece and securing with chuck, clamps, toolholder, collet, angle plates, worktable vise or V-blocks. Build tooling or fixtures used during manufacturing of parts. Set up and operate metal removing machines such as lathe and milling machine to machine parts to specification, which may involve programming to set feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut and cutting tool for each operation, using knowledge of metal properties, machining experience and shop mathematics. Program or adjust coolant flow. Observe operation and regulate tool position and action. Draw material into shop from stores inventory. Issue material to work orders and document material check-out to employees; ensure that material is marked with correct part number. Conduct entire machining operation in a reasonable and expected time-frame while keeping scrap to a minimum. Verify and inspect conformance of machined workpiece to specifications, using instruments such as micrometers, gages, microscope, calipers and gage blocks. Maintain an expected level of accuracy on machined parts. "Troubleshoot" program and machine settings to meet acceptable precision levels in order to complete parts to specifications. Understand all phases of the machine shop. Understand and follow established Company safety policies and procedures at all times. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Two years of apprenticeship plus 2 years of previous "on-the-job" training or 5 years of previous "on-the-job" training in a machine shop. Knowledge of shop mathematics (algebra, trigonometry and geometry) and the ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Knowledge of the properties of various materials and metals. Blueprint and sketch reading skills are necessary. OCCUPATIONAL DEMANDS: Position requires constant standing and walking while adjusting machine controls with both hand-arm and foot-leg movements and upper trunk twisting. Occasional lifting or carrying of materials and mechanical parts weighing approximately 50 pounds for distances up to 100 feet. Frequent reaching below knees and from waist to knees may be expected.
