Day to Day(what a typical day or week look like in this role) Working with a global supply chain spanning multiple time zones is both exciting and challenging. The Production Scheduler ensures availability of purchased parts from the vendor supply base and fabricated materials for the final assembly areas using Lean Manufacturing and ISM techniques to support the manufacturing operations. This position also communicates with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and Engineering on any condition which may affect excess or shortages of materials for production. What You Will Do * Schedule Manufacturing Support Areas - including Press room, shear, paint and other fabrication areas. * Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the fabrication areas evaluating the use of technology to tie the scheduling system to the shop floor. * Analyzes and plans material requirements by determining the quantity of and date by which materials are needed to ensure optimal inventory levels. * Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications. * Prepares and processes requisitions as appropriate. * Responsible for key metrics: schedule actualization, inventory levels (in dollars and days of supply/inventory), and obsolescence. * Provide as a back up role for other production schedulers/material coordinators. What You Need To Succeed * BS Degree with 3-5 years experience in a lean manufacturing environment, MBA desired. * System experience with an MRP system and strong understanding MRP and APS fundamentals. * MS Excel/Access and Higher Level Programming languages experience. * APICS/CPIM Supply Chain certification desired. * SAP experience would be a plus. * Lean/Six Sigma skills and/or training, or experience working in a Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing environment is a plus. * Ability to challenge current processes to identify waste and drive improvements. * Supervisory experience desired. The Production Planner provides support for product planning, facilitates workflow development, creates detailed schedules, handles status tracking and reporting, and participates in issue resolution for all assigned products throughout the entire product lifecycle. This includes involvement in the proposal development process, gathering and communicating requirements to internal groups, developing and monitoring schedules, planning work, effectively utilizing shared resources, and capturing and analyzing department metrics. Project tracking, monitoring revisions, and managing workflow according to Publishing Operations departmental and quality assurance procedures are other aspects of this position. The Production Planner promotes departmental best practices and standards; captures, manages, and tracks issues; and serves as an important point of contact between Publishing Operations and other Pearson areas and customers on assigned projects. Supervisory responsibilities ' Indirect supervisory responsibilities exist as Production Planners oversee the timely and accurate execution of functional tasks completed by Production Coordinators or other Production Planners supporting the assigned programs. Other ' This position supports the execution of the company's strategic plan and the accomplishment of its publishing targets. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 2-5 years in production control, project/program management or equivalent experience, preferably in educational publishing with background in production tools and processes, production technology, prepress, and printing. Ability to multi-task effectively and learn new technologies and software. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Skills Demonstrated production planning and/or project management skills. Strong communication skills, risk management, issues management, and problem solving skills. Basic understanding of costing, budget planning, and metrics capture and analysis. Strong attention to detail and organization, demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with initiative and follow-through, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, knowledge of production process, demonstrated ability to delegate tasks appropriately and work collaboratively with others.
