BASIC SUMMARY: The Production Manager is responsible for the daily management and execution of all aspects of the direct mail production process. S/he provides back-up support and assists the Production Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for understanding the structure and applications, rules and protocols, and select and reporting functions of Defenders' fundraising database. Manages the daily production function for the Production Director. Attends weekly production meeting and provides updates on all mailings. Works with Program Managers in reviewing art, production, specifications, job cost estimates, and final costs for membership mailings. Communicates daily with production partners. Reviews and provides approvals throughout the production process including: data verification, review of bluelines and hard copy print proofs, laser set-ups, mailing insertions, and completing detailed checklists for each aspect of the mailing. prepares personalization and mailing instructions. Writes instruction memos for membership programs to service bureaus and mail processing vendors. Review Source Code memos with Program Manager. Once approved, forwards to database team. Responsible for tracking quantities and costs associated with direct mail print inventory. Works with Accounting Clerk in reconciling inventory on a monthly basis and ensuring that expenses are applied to proper campaigns. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree(B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a related discipline Experience: 3+ years of direct mail experience; strong understanding of direct mail production, extraordinary attention to detail.
