At Columbia, we believe that there’s over 3.5 million square miles of land to explore in the U.S. alone, but you don’t have to travel very far to find a great career.PLEASE APPLY ONLINE AT WWW.COLUMBIA.COM General Position Summary: This position is responsible for creating, communicating and executing a materials requirement plan that supports the global demand for Columbia products. Perform or coordinate all tasks related to gathering, analyzing and communicating materials requirements data. Work closely with Samples Dept to coordinate seasonal sample fabric orders Work closely with Liaison office staff on material requirements, commitments and inventory tracking. Work closely with the Demand Planners and Inventory Planners to maintain a style buy plan that will work with in materials commitments. Communicate with Materials Research and Product Development on new materials, material approval status, minimums and other material related issues, including the impact of such issues on finished goods planning. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: Each season, create and maintain a Materials calendar, and coordinate key events with Merchandising, Product Development, Samples, Planning, and Liaison offices. Create Raw Materials plans:Long lead time sales sample materials/greige orderRegular lead time sales sample materials orderGreige forecast from MPS with appropriate commitments, incorporating SMU requirementsBuy requirements at color levelDetailed analysis, planning, and tracking of priority materialsCoordinate the forecasts for dual sourced fabrics Communicate significant changes to plans as frequently as necessary. Work with Planners to reconcile buying decisions with materials constraints. Coordinate color % from planning departments (globally) to facilitate the planning of:Alternate Shell ItemsLong lead-time items Coordinate & ensure that manufacturing lead-times used for finished goods planning includes the appropriate materials lead time based on the materials plan. Create process measurements and distribute reports:RM Excess inventory with value and agingRM item countRM efficiencyABC AnalysisSupplier countSupplier performance reports Monitor PDM, MPS, & Color % for errors and anomalies that affect forecasts.  Determine/analyze/explain them and ensure that no problems with materials result. Track the accuracy of materials forecasts and develop solutions to improve accuracy and the process.Coordinate with the Excess Materials Sales Manager to expedite the consumption or disposition of excess materials Advise/influence the Merchandising, Materials Research, and Sourcing Departments to ensure that materials sourcing and transportation plans support the overall global sourcing plan. Communicate with the MR department on what materials are being developed and how they will influence materials commitments.  Proactively develop strategies to ease the effects of transitions.  Evaluate existing material planning operations, develop solutions to optimize the processes, construct initial recommendations and/or lead initial implementation of those solutions. Solutions may include process, structure, reporting, and/or computer system changes.  Facilitate proper design, development, testing, and implementation of computer system changes in support of materials planning. Specific Job Skills: Demonstrated experience in materials planning, and working knowledge of independent and dependent demand planning and distribution requirements planning. Knowledge of operations management including production and sales processes, inbound and outbound logistics. Excellent analysis and problem solving skills required. A high degree of organization and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines.   Possess excellent computer skills and a thorough knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications (i.e. MS Excel, MS Access).   Strong, verbal and written communication skills Ability to speak to groups of varying sizes.   Ability to travel worldwide on commercial transportation. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Three to four years experience in a business environment, preferably in material planning, forecasting or manufacturing operations.APICS training a plus.Purchasing, sourcing or international business experience helpful. Apparel, footwear or other textile industry experience desired. Job Conditions: Job may require that hours exceed 8 per day and/or 40 per week, to complete priority projects especially during peak activity periods. The individual in this position will be responsible for production control, planning and scheduling as well as inventory and asset management.  This individual will create a cost effective purchasing and overall sourcing strategy and be supporting the implementation of best practices including Lean, Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints. This position will coordinate with and support various departments. The position requires a degree in a relevant field and/or CPIM/CIRM/CPM/CPSM certification or equivalent, a minimum of 5 years of supply chain and personnel management experience required. Aviation manufacturing, repair & overhaul experience strongly preferred.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of an organization required. Being goal driven, proactive, hands-on, customer centric and profit-oriented required.
