This involves directing and administering production control, inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials stores. This position reports to the director of manufacturing and supervises the shipping and receiving, purchasing, Material Resource Planning (MRP), and the label lab functions.  Responsibilities include implementing and monitoring metrics and assessing performance; planning, assigning, and directing work activities; driving continuous improvement and waste reduction in accordance with LEAN and ISO methods; training employees and satisfying system audits; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  This position carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 1.               Work with Director of Manufacturing in articulating a strategy for the materials department within the manufacturing division.2.               Forecast Unit purchase, production and inventory requirements in order to meet sales objectives.   Implement and maintain an effective Materials Resource Planning (MRP) system to maintain material flow.3.               Plan production requirements and inventory levels needed to maintain level production demands, minimum inventories, and appropriate customer service levels.4.               Maintain and support a materials staff capable of working within the MRP system to achieve desired results.5.               Coordinates with the V.P. of Sales & Marketing to maintain re-evaluate and expand reliable primary sources of supply and secondary sources as back-up, to insure continuous production of products to forecast.6.               Ensure the maintenance of accurate manual and / or automated control records in order to properly plan purchases and production requirements.7.               Perform systems development in the areas of MRP, master scheduling, capacity planning, and purchasing in order to efficiently support the manufacturing production plan.8.               Develop and maintain departmental budgets necessary to achieve the aforementioned goals.9.               Keep Director of Manufacturing informed as to results of established objectives or programs and make recommendations for changes in established policies.10.            Direct Receiving, Shipping and Warehouse Operations to insure accuracy of inventory records and the timely and efficient delivery of products in accordance with established schedules.11.            Ensure proper metrics are in place and utilized to measure performance such as inventory turns, expedited freight, absenteeism, etc.12.            Adhere to first-in-first-out (F.I.F.O.) principles and ensure consistent communication with the supply base to meet Peckham’s operational needs and customer expectations.   13.            Supports the rehabilitation service department and helps with the coordination of services between services and team members within the department as applicable.14.            Promotes the use of assistive technology, job carve-out, and targeted contract procurement to meet specific needs. 15.            Responsible for insuring LEAN standards are developed, documented, and maintained within the materials department.16.            Ensure materials department staff is versed in LEAN concepts and participative in LEAN events.17.            Initiate and maintain system for lot traceability for fabric and component items per customer requirements.18.            Assist Quality department during customer audits as needed.19.            Maintain safe and clean work environment.20.            Assist in the training of people with disabilities as needed.21.            Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises up to 10 direct reports with responsibility for 20 - 40 personnel division-wide.  Carries-out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.  Must be able to read and interpret financial data and information.      COMMENTSThis job requires thorough understanding of government specifications.  This individual must get along well with others as close communication with shipping and receiving and other departments is required.  This position requires passing and maintaining security background checks.  Must have access to reliable transportation. Must maintain an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and possess a clear driving record (in accordance with company insurance policy) to drive the company vehicle.    QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully an individual must have a background in plant materials and Material Resource Planning systems, and strong computer skills.
